I went to alegrias for my birthday. I was surprised that it was so quiet on Sunday night. The food was pretty good. The portions were kind of small. they recommended two plates per person, but I think we had to order almost 3 plates per person. I recommend the mussels, clams, and definitely the mushrooms. I didn't really like the octopus though. I taste like it was boild and sprinkled with some salt. overall quiet romantic place to eat at.

I discovered Alegrias when my company was in San Francisco for a gourmet food show about seven years ago. I found the food superb, and the service equally memorable. The chef came out and personally offered us his speciality, which was even better than their already wonderful food. Even after all these years, I never hesitate to recommend Alegrias to anyone who is traveling to San Francisco-it is a gourmet experience that shouldn't be missed. Viva EspaƱa and Viva Alegrias' food!

Amazing!
By Stacy, 3/26/07
I keep on thinking about how good the food was. This restaurant was so adorable. I love the family owned atmosphere. Luckily we were a lot of people, so we were able to order a lot of tapas, and everything we had was delicious.

Not to be missed!
By RobertG, 12/30/06
In the best Spanish cuisine, simple ingredients--olive oil, potatoes, garlic, seafood, tomatoes, paprika, saffron--undergo a kind of alchemy in the kitchen, and masterpieces emerge. We were a party of 14 people, and all had a tapas meal to remember, including gambas al ajillo, patatas bravas, manchego flambeado, queso de cabra, espinacas, pinchos morunos, calamares fritos, and a paella a la Valenciana, topped off with an assortment of five fantastic desserts to share--all I can say is wow. My favorite tapas was the poached octopus with paprika--for me, the dish is the very spirit of the Mediterranean--rich, complex, intense, yet so unassuming. I'm telling everyone I know about this place. It's absolutely superb.

Unique experience / excellent food
By Grateful Mom, 9/26/05
The food is excellent, and the owners who serve you themselves bring an ambiance that is soon not forgotten. Though I have never been to Spain, everytime I go, I feel as if I am on vacation, entering into another time.
