I have been eating at this restaurant since the early 1990s. I don't eat the crab, too much work, but the prawns are wonderful with the same seasoning as the roasted crab. The Shaken Beef is too die for!!!!!
have you ever dined at a restaurant where you always ordered the same thing each and every time you ate there? well known for it's garlic roasted crab and garlic noodles, thanh long has been treating bay area crab enthusiasts for 20+ years.
the restaurant has come a long way since it's humble beginnings, with modern decor and probably 3-4 times the capacity. we all know it's the predecessor to the upscale crustacean restaurant, but it's my opinion that dad didn't teach his daughter all the family secrets as i much prefer the original thanh long crab to it's glamorous sibling.
if you plan on eating more than one crab, might i suggest ordering one roasted crab and then order the second midway thru the first to keep the entree hot and the butter nice and warm. add in a side of jasmine rice and/or garlic noodles (a little pasty for my tastes).
Yeah, pretty good crabs and garlic noodles, but what else they've got to offer? We could've used some more variety of things to try. We had a party of 6 and once everybody ordered the crab dish we all silenced and went to attack the crustacean. Great d�cor, however, and great for dating. Overall I think this place is bit over rated. Not a real authentic Vietnamese food; Americanized.
Thanhlong is a small seafood resturant that is based in a residential area of San Francisco, Ca.
