Siam Royal Authentic Thai

Description

This inexpensive Thai place has been a staple on Palo Alto's University Avenue for years serving a mix of students and locals. It serves up a nice selection of traditional Thai dishes, the most expensive one tipping the scales at less than $10. The decor is colorful, with polished wooden railings, vivid blue tablecloths and exotic plants. Go for the succulent Panang Salmon or the spicy garlic lamb. Either way, do not forget to order a Thai iced tea for a deliciously sweet and cool contrast. The service is terrific.

This is by far the best Thai restaurant in Palo Alto. Their prices are cheap and their food is GREAT. I have eaten here for 10 years (apparently they have been open for 18 years) and it tastes good every time. I normally get their pad thai or one of their curries and they are not bland like other Thai restaurants. The service is pretty good as well even when the restaurant is very busy. Siam Royal is a place I have taken my friends and will continue to recommend.

Siam Royal Authentic Thai is Very pleasant - great food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/09
We love this restaurant. Great food for the most part and good service, reasonable prices They won't hang out and chat with you but they are pleasant, quick and get the job done. We're vegetarian so this is what we recommend - For an appetizer Meang Kom, with the shredded coconut is divine. The fried Tofu is good too but you'd have to be a moron to mess that up. Their veggie curries are simply fantastic. For dessert - I like to try everything that sounds strange so the Taro Dumplings were just that. My boyfriend had the fried Banana with mango ice cream - Yummy!!! Oh, and the different juices are really good. Try the lemongrass juice - Yum! Stay away from the vegetarian Pad Thai, really not that great. Also the eggplant was disappointing, and I am a big eggplant fan.

awful food
By prachi, 6/19/07
This place was recently renovated and so we went in thinking the quality has probably improved too. But the food was horrible and the waiter stopped by to ask how the food was and walked away before we could respond. Will never go there again. I like Krung Siam across the street much better.

Average Thai Place
By Hoa, 5/19/07
While I think the price is reasonable, I am quite disappointed with the food quality. I guess we pay for what we want. I usually ordered the Tom Yum chicken soup but this place does not provide the Thai taste that I usually get. It's a little bit sour and definitely not spicy in any scale. Whenever we order, they never ask for how spicy we want our dish is going to be. It seemed as though everything was extremely mild and we had to add extra pepper into the dish to make it spicy. We did order Pad Thai, but this one is another disappointment. I didn't see where the taste of Thai food was. The noodle was not hot enough (in term of temperature) and there was a lot *I mean a lot* of oil in every single dish. So if you really watch your oil or fat in take, I would not recommend you coming to this Thai place because they do add a lot of oil. We ordered a combination apper., and it's a disappointment as well. The crab cake did not taste as though it was freshly made. The potato fried was decent. The chicken satay had very mild flavor, you can mostly taste the peanuts. The vegetarian eggroll was decent. Actually, most of the dishes were at average temperature and make it look as though the dish wasn't fresh out of the pan. Service was pretty decent. The table was clean appropriately, and they were very nice and friendly. But the plates didn't seem to be clean very well and present a lot of scratches. Decoration was not over the top but decent. Although I would like to have more lightning and the ceiling was too high so that it makes the place looks so empty. Overall, I don't think I would come back.

My favorite Restaurant in Palo Alto
I love Thai food and this is by far my favourite restaurant in Palo Alto. There is a convenient parking structure on Bryant Ave, between University and Lytton.

Not worth the visit
By Soph, 9/28/06
I was highly disappointed last evening when we ate at this restaurant. A few years ago, I recalled being excited and impressed with the food. However yesterday's experience made me decide never to go back. The food was subpar. The chefs apparently think gooey noodles with briefly sauteed veggies and basil leaves still attached to the thick stems is an acceptable dish. The bathroom was in disrepair complete with dirty towels on the floor, mold and discoloration in the ceiling tiles, and a dusty set of fake orchids in a vase with water. I'm shaking my head just thinking of it all. Don't bother with this restaurant. There are plenty of better ones within walking distance.

This is a lame thai restaurant! It has a weird bird smell and the dishes are old and dirty looking, and the food was gross! I would never ever go back! Dont waste your time or money! Try Siam House in San Jose great ambiance and the food is delicious and worth it!

Siam Royal is a MUST EAT AT resturaunt
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/06
Siam Royal is family owned and operated. The family works at the resturaunt every day. The service is expedient and non-intrusive. The atmosphere is casual and family, student, adult friendly. The prices are reasonable and the food is FANTASTIC. I recomend Panang salmon or if you like it a bit spicy - basil salmon. They have other dishes, like manago chicken and vegetarian options too. Ask for the salad with the special dressing - it is light and delicious! The fried banana with ice cream for dessert is scrumptious.
