Based on reviews in Yelp and Yahoo, I decided to celebrate my birthday at Albona. My friends and I had a wonderful time - great service and the feeling we were in a small town where people cared about their customers. The food was outstanding - I had the special of the day - lamb chops and they were perfectly cooked. The Chocolate Bonet dessert was the perfect ending to dinner. A great time was had by all and we will certainly return
I tried Albona this week with some family members. It is a very small and intimate restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the service was very good. Their portions were just the right size and the food was delicious! I would definitely go back and I highly recommend this restaurant.
We read a review in the SF Weekly, giving the restaurant high marks. We totally agree with their review...our group had three stunning meals. And a nice discussion with Bruno, the owner, before our order. The rabbit dish wasn't available on the night we visited, but that is the what I want to try next. (My husband had the veal shank, which was great! The server was able to send us home with two shank bones for our dog...she was in heaven.) This is a small, intimate, delightful restaurant.
From the valet parking and the sweeping away of coats to the helping on of coats this was a memorable experience. The food was expertly served and stories from Bruno accentuated the remarkable taste treats. He even gave us a lesson in how to properly dunk biscotti in the remnants of our fabulous but not expensive wine. Our dinner was a precursor to an evening event and we both decided that if our evening event turned out to be a bust the dinner made the entire day a success.
The Ambience in this cozy hidden true gem of a find is
a rarety now-a-days with all the trendy restaurants popping up. Albona is So Not pretentious yet holds a fine dining cozy atmosphere in a family environment puts it in a class of its own. It is almost a one man show that takes great pride in his work and strives to please the soul and the palate of all that walk in. Not only do you enjoy a fine meal with delicatable tastes of Italy heaven in every bite, but you get a private Bruno show : ) a must see for yourself. He has a wonderful soul of class charm and comedy. We were a group of 7 gals and all were more than pleased from the intro and explanation of prepartion and education of appetizers to the entrees everything carefully prepared, you can tell it was done with care and time and we will be going back and referring this gem to all and who can forget . Mahalo Bruno for being yourself and not following trends but keeping it simple with elegance and with a joyful heart.

I've traveled all over the US and internationally, and 5 years after my first visit, I still have the restaurant's business card and Bruno's name so that I can recommend it to fellow travelers. This is the highest praise I can give -- this place is truly extraordinary and special.
Read in a few books and on websites that the food is classified as Italian, but dont be expecting noodles with red sauce - there is a heavy Iberian influence. The owner told me, and I think I've got this right, that the base for one of their soups comes from slowly cooking sauerkraut over a day until it completely dissolves. As a part of the process the kraut becomes the very sweet base of a soup. Also ate a baked pasta dish that was essentially flat, thick pasta rolled in a spiral with prosciutto and covered with a cheese sauce. Really unique and fantasic dishes here. Make a reservation because the place is about the size of Kevin Lees cube.
