House of Nanking, San Francisco

Food was way below mediocre. Restaurant was filthy! Eat at your own risk!

Went to House of Nanking during recent trip to the city. Was NOT disappointed! Been a number of years. Still a line, crowded but food was very good. Had the calamari, seseme chicken, potstickers, scallops, chow main. No problems with our service. Last went there when it was just a little hole in the wall, kind of like that better.

Ha! I went to this place way back in the mid 90's on the advice of one of the best chefs in Seattle and my gf and I both got FOOD POISONING!! We changed our flight and stayed an extra day in our hotel room to recover. I want to some divine restaurants on that trip but I've forgotten all of their names, but I'll never forget the house of Nanking!

We were very excited to go back, we went there about 10 years ago and the food and service was great. WHAT A DISASTER this place has become, the food was below grade and the service was greatly lacking. All of our food dishes came at diffrent time's, with the rice comming last after the meal was done. We were very disapointed in everything after wanting to go back. Needless t say we will not be going back. There are so many better places to go.

I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone! I don't understand why everyone thinks this restaurant is so great. I went with family for the first time today expecting fantastic food and service and was greatly dissapointed! First off, when the waitress was seating us she sneezed in her hand, wiped her nose and continued to serve us plates and silverware. Unsanitary and very unprofessional! The second turn off was the long wait for our food. Thirdly, the whole room was packed and so cramped! There was very little to no leg room. It wasn't pleasant being in everyone else's business. And finally, the last and greatest turn off, was the price and qualitly of their food. We paid rediculous prices for very little food of poor taste and quality. (Example: $13 for scallops...we didn't expect we would only get 4 scallops for a group of 5 people.) I am very angry I spent $45 on such a dissapointing meal. Needless to say I will not be returning to the infamous House of Nanking.

This is a very dirty restaurant.If you have a kid.better not go there

Definitely overrated!! I have seen much better restaurants by far. The people working in the restaurant are just interested in money. The place is filthy and overcrowded. I can imagine the sanitation in the food preparation area. The portions are quite small, and expensive i.e few pieces of fried calamari in a plastic plate. If you want a good Chinese food go where the Chinese folks eat.

Long lines do not lie. Great food, great prices. Quick service. Potstickers, sesame chicken, crispy beef,wow!

House of Nanking food has lost some of its luster of late. Too bad.
