Joe's Cable Car Restaurant

Description

Recent restaurant reviews have cited this as "the best burgers in San Francisco." Joel, the proprietor for over 30 years, vehemently agrees. The decor at Joe's Cable Car Restaurant is simple. The inside resembles a fast food restaurant, plastic booths and shiny counter tops. The burgers are large and cooked to order. The menu offers a new and unique spin on traditional hamburgers including the chili burger and the avocado burger.

Joe's is king

Freshest, most delightful burger in town. (The MANY signs telling you about how Joe grinds his meat daily will serve as reminder.) No Frills: burger on small plastic plate with pickle on the side. Lots of kitsch decor, but it feels like an old-school burger joint, which is absolutely is. Fun for groups & kids.

They grind their own meats - terrific - and you can always know what you are getting. Never been disappointed here!

Good burgers

A little steep on price with milkshake, fries etc, but good burgers none the less. Good steak sandwiches also.

very good but EXPENSIVE burgers
By ,
the burgers are really, really good. but i guess for the amount of money you spend, you'd probably be best advised to go to a nicer restaurant. still, it hits the spot if you're in the mood for a greasy spoon.

Delicious Quality Hamburgers
By ,
Joe grinds his own daily is the motto at this hamburger legend. They sell fresh ground hamburgers in 4, 6 and 8 oz. varieties. Whether you are hankering for a chili burger, and avocado burger, or something with onions, the straightforward food will delight you. Prices are not cheap but the food quality is excellent. A 4oz. cheeseburger is $8.35. But you will be full. And the food is NOT greasy. They also have terrific milkshakes, made fresh. Warning: Joe likes neon. And signs. There are way too many of both in this tiny place for adults. But your kids? They will LOVE it, and the free balloons, blown up with a cannister that seems to resemble...well, Joe! Neat murals and etched glass too.

Looking for a better burger?
By ,
Then don't go here! This is among the worst values I've experienced in San Francisco. First, this burger costs $16.50. That's what I paid for a puny 6 ounce burger with an over-inflated bun, half order of fries and no soda. No kidding. Second, this place concentrates too much on image and packaging, badly neglecting food quality and quantity, which is mediocre at best. We were still hungry afterwards, and were thus compelled to hit In-and-Out for a nightcap meal! Do yourself a favor and avoid this one, despite all of the good reviews. This one is a bona-fide rip off!!!
