El Nuevo Frutilandia
Description
The savory smell of roasting meat fills the air as the overhead Latin Salsa music makes passersby want to stop and check out this Mission District restaurant. The food is traditional Caribbean, which means spicy and flavorful and served in huge portions by a friendly staff. Items include the classic fried plantains and green chillies stuffed with cheese. The restaurant is named for its specialty, a fresh tropical fruit shake.
When I found out there was a PR place here in San Francsico I freaked out! I was dying to have an alcapurria and show my friends what Puerto Rican food is all about without having to cook so many things for so much people. I tried this place and I'm never going back. It's Cuban-Puerto Rican with a Nicaraguan crew and cook?? I appreciate that you try to cook other countries food but this is not close in taste and presentation. The pernil not close at all it taste like regular chicharron, the beans...not good...mofongo didn't kill me, the alcapurrias were good but too greasy. Now I rather cook and show my friends what real Puerto Rican food is all about.
My family and I have been eating at Frutilandia for years. Its cozy and the food is wonderful. Just be prepared to wait for the food to arrive, but enjoy the great chicken sopa and the sounds of Puerto Rican spanish being spoken by other patrons while you relax and wait. My favorite is the vaca frita. On the run, the bistic sandwich is great.
I love going here, its a cozy little place, nice for a date, big groups should get reservation as space is limited. offers great typical dishes, some from Cuba, and some Puerto Rican, just like mama used to make.
i,ve been coming here since 1998 and i think this place sells preatty good food i,ve tried the pasteles alcapurrias also the ropa vieja and bistec empanizado also the vaca frita and they sell preatty good sandwich cubanos also so check this place out it has preatty good food
When we got our plate of appetizers featuring all sorts of great finger foods from Puerto Rico, we thought this place was gonna blow our minds, but sadly when the main courses arrived they did not match up to the good taste of the appetizers. So what is someone to do? Go get appetizers, if you feel like pasteles and alcapurrias this is the place to go, but their habichuelas are disgraceful.
