LA Bergerie Restaurant, San Francisco

This is my new favorite restaurant. For $21 to $25 we got a delicious fresh salad, soup of the day, large and excellent entree (I had trout meuniere and my friend had filet mignon), creamy carrots, scalloped potatoes, and a delicious french vanilla ice cream. Then we added escargo for $7. The sauces were superb. The staff was extremely polite and place was clean (no idea what the review below was about - we had a completely different experience, read all the other reviews, this is the only one with that comment). The quality of the food was amazing, the choices were varied. I went another time with a party of 7 and everyone loved their entree. The restaurant has a mid-level 'ambiance', e.g. clean, quiet but not 'fancy'. I assume this is partly why the prices were so affordable for the surprisingly high food quality. And there is a public parking lot for $10 on the first block up 6th, which is very convenient. Based on its food choice/quality, value and service I am giving it my strongest recommendation.

Cockroach Alert!!!! Tonight my husband and I took my son, his girlfriend and her parents to dinner at La Bergerie. We have frequented this restaurant for the last 3 decades, but have not been there in a while. This was my son’s birthday, and he requested to go to La Bergerie as it holds many family memories of many wonderful celebrations with good food and superb service. I have made reservations one week in advance, and specified that we needed two separate tables in different rooms ( my son’s request).When we arrived, we found out that the two tables reserved for us were at the front of the restaurant, side by side. I talked to a very grumpy head waiter who said that they could not change either table because they were full ( it was 6:15 and the restaurant was less than half full). After I insisted, he got the host, who promptly moved our son and girlfriend to the back room. Our service in the front was OK, not great. The food was not as good as it used to be (my duck was very dry), but we were truly horrified when we saw a cockroach crawling on the wall next to our table. We got rid of this one, but then another one appeared, and another one....and another one. Not only was this disgusting, but really embarrassing for us who invited guests to join us. After dinner I tried to find the host who was no where to be found. I cornered the head waiter and told him about the cockroaches. His response? “We know, we are going to spray tomorrow”. I still cannot believe that they would seat guests at a table in an area that they know is infested with cockroaches. Needless to say, there was no apology given. So....I am really disappointed to see one of my favorite restaurants go downhill like this. We will never return, and on Monday morning I am going to call the health department.

Very good French Cuisine and the price is fair. Their lobster dinner even better than the one we had at Red Lobster. My wife and I always dine at this place everytime we come to SF. The place is little tiny but the excellent customer service say it all.

When I first went to La Bergerie with my boyfriend, I wasn't too thrilled. The reason for this is because the last time I went to a French restaurant the foods serving was very little, in about three bites I was done and the price was outrageous. SO when my boyfriend asked me to go with him to this restaurant on Valentines, I was a little skeptical. But he persuaded me and said the food is great, the service, and don't worry you will have more than three bitefuls. So when I arrived, I looked at the prices and realized, it wasn't too bad. You get salad, soup, the entree, ice cream, and coffee! What a deal! I couldnt believe it. I was actually full! and I couldn't wait to go back again!! The salad was delicious, it was creamy and had little tomato's in it. The pea soup was so good, I wanted more!! At first, I was thinking, who in the world likes pea soup? Obviously, I did! The entree, I ordered lamp chops, had impeccable taste. Coffee and ice cream made my time there great. Whenever we have a special occassion, the first restaurant that comes to mind is, La Bergerie. Tonight, we will be going back to La Bergerie for our 3 Year Anniversary. If I had 10 thumbs, I would give them 10 thumbs up! The quality and quantity is definitely a big thumbs up.
