Tadich Grill

Description

In a city where most restaurants have a lifespan of less than five years, it is heartening, if not surprising, to find such an old-timer. Politicians and business people have been coming here forever, buying each other martinis and waiting to be seated (no reservations are accepted). The seafood is fresh and fabulous and the decor is turn-of-the-last-century. The wait staff is great, and it's not surprising--some of them have been here more than 30 years!

I was a flight attendant who ate at the grill once a week in the early 70's. It is nice to see that nothing has changed. It is still great. If I was not handicapped, I would be on an airplane out there tomorrow. Keep up the good work.

Food here is delicious. When I went on Saturday afternoon, they had my favorite fish - Sanddabs and they cooked it just right, the way you get it if you were in Monterey. It was not bland at all. It has that old world charm and I welcome that especially in san francisco where there are alot of trendy gourmet places. I guess if you're not from SF Bayarea you would not appreciate it as much. But I thought it was excellent service with a san franciscan attitude. Oh and the burnt sourdough bread--- it's not burnt, that's how it's made. It was yummy. Big ups to the crew at Tadich's Grill.

I read all of the reviews today 10/15/08 and went for lunch. Food was bland, the atmosphere was loud and noise, the service was not great. I ordered soup which never arrived, they tried to serve me burned bread, the salad dressing was runny and plain old oil. Restaurant may have been there for many years but I won't be going back. I'd say for the money - Go to the Four Seasons Hotel's Seasons Restaurant. Great service, and food to match - nice ambiance and the servers will attend to your needs/request. This was a Chicago gangster style restaurant where you'd take someone you wanted to have bumped off!

My father in law took me to this place and it is tremendous. If you down grade this restaurant you don't need to be rating restaurants. A little pricey but well worth it.

This is the most overrated restaurant in SF. The food is bland and the recipies are outdated. The service is great, but that doesn't make up for the overpriced dishes.

Great food and atmosphere! I had breakfast for dinner and it was just as amazing as the lunches I have had. The wait staff was some of the most professional I have ever seen.

Great Waiter, Great Food, Great Time!
By Mike, 3/30/08
Michelle, Zack & I had dinner on a bustling Friday evening. Wow! What a great time we had. Very busy, but they found us a table within 5 minutes. I like the no reservations idea. We left the waiter $60. (yes that exceeds 20% - and yes, he earned it!) This guy was great and from all appearing around us the whole staff was as jovial and fun. We've got to go back again.

You missed the boat ;-) If it's the true San Francisco seafood experience you're after, you should go to Pacific Cafe in the outer Richmond. No reserves, and you will wait, but I've never felt rushed no matter how many bodies were prowling the sidewalks outside. The service is warm and professional. The menu really never changes, but it's as they say good value for money, since the price includes soup or salad and yummy real sourdough bread. This place has been here since 1976-ish and boy does the decor reflect that, but basic seafood, the fog horns lowing, the people chatting outside, is much more about San Francisco than some downtown restaurant.

Gee, what a surprise to see this place still exists. I remember my parents taking me there as a kid back in the '60s! I don't remember much about the food, but obviously it had a reputation even back then. I hope it survives another 40-50 years.
