Description
Firefly is the manifestation of the dream of a couple of idealistic romantics, and we've spent the last 17 years pursuing the realization of that dream. Our mission is to provide a dynamic neighborhood restaurant with excellent and sustainable food, rooted in the familiar with world touches, and genuine service with intention and generosity.
Firefly reminded us of a very informal, European bistro type restaurant. The food, service and wine list are outstanding. Firefly is located in a quiet neighborhood location away from the maddening crowd.
Our first experience dining at Firefly (with guests visiting from Italy) was on New Year's Eve. We didn't quite know what to expect. Although a New Year's Eve Prix Fix Menu was offered for the evening there were many selections to choose from. After first being served with a super fresh sourdough bread with a lentil and sun-dried tomato spread some orderd the Lobster Bisque ~ others the Garden Greens. The Lobster Bisque was filled with Lobster(not the usual essence of Lobster Bisque. The greens were served slightly warmed with wonderfully prepared portobello mushroom fritters that were served hot with a wonderful lemon-pepper aioli. These just for 'starters'.
We had a reservation for 5 and unbeknownst to all, an unexpected family member decided to join our party. Even though it was New Year's Eve and the restaurant (as well as our round table) was completely filled to capacity, the staff was gracious, kind and did all that they could to accomodate us.
The only negative: we didn't know that this absolute jewel of a restaurnat existed until now.
Although we live in San Mateo County we look forward to making the trip and hope to dine there often.
We had an excelent erxperience here with our co-workers the food was good and my co worker loved it too
i will definitly go back there, and if your around and kinda hungry you should check it out too!
Not to mention many other more eclectic dishes. I believe this is a family owned restaurant..if not, it sure has that feel. My wife an I have been going for years and love both the food and the atmosphere. If you're a fan of fried chicken, its the best. Also, when its busy (which is most of the time) have a seat and dinner at the bar.
Firefly reminds me of the Blue Jay Cafe (also in San Francisco, on Divisadero) but more expensive and a little nicer-looking. Both serve home-style food, with Firefly being a bit more refined but also a bit more expensive.
Firefly feels comfortable, as if they remodeled an old house and made it into a nice eating space. Every dish was great, especially the appetizer of goat cheese encrusted in pistachios and served with a little salad of greens and strawberries in a light vinaigrette; wow.
Staff was low-key and friendly; the ambience looks like a nice-but-casual space.
I would go again and again, but not every day if only because of the cost (for my budget, it's not every day food prices).
