Hillstone Restaurant, San Francisco

Thank You Hillstone........had the most amazing Birthday Party Celebration w/ my 5 girlfriends..........great food and ambiance. The Oak grilled artichokes were amazing and I ordered the Flying Tuna Platter......so so good. Great place to gather w/ friends and to top it all off........there s Jazz!! Loved the trio......definitely will come back for more!

All the food was good except the steak. Tough, over cooked and full of gristle. Walmart quality at Ruths Chris prices. Server never came by to ask about our meal until we were almost done with desert. Won t be going back any time soon.

I have been going to Houstons for the past 5 years now and I must say that their food has always been very consistent, tasty and fresh. Most of the items on their menu are grilled and If your are craving BBQ ribs then this is the place to go. I have also tried several of their daily fresh fish specials and they have always been very good. Friendly wait staff and reasonably priced.

Everything about this place is great for a important date. The food can be a bit pricy, but its worth it if you're into living it up.

I like Houston's a lot, in fact I like Houston an awful lot. I have been to this establishment more times than any other restaurant in San Francisco and I will continue to return until the day they remove the ribs from the menu (which I imagine is virtually never, as Houston's ribs are legendary). The steaks are great too, certainly some of the best steaks around. And true, Houston's may be a chain restaurant, but a relatively small chain with standards as high as the Transamerica Building. I have never once had a bad experience here (knock on wood), every time I leave Houston's I feel great about the delicious food and superb service that keeps me coming back. It's so great I even took my vegan ex-room mate here, and lets face it, a vegan would never be caught dead in a steakhouse. Admittedly her choices were somewhat limited, but she adored the customer service and ambiance no less. At the weekends there is a live piano band, and although the crowd is less than San Francisco locals due to its proximity to Fisherman's Wharf, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone of any age.

This is the place to take your cigar and have a Beautiful after dinner in front of the outdoor fireplace. There can be a wait, but the food has never disappointed. The grilled artichokes are divine, and the steak is always quite good. Houston's isn't stuffy, which is refreshing. Service? At the last visit, the wait was two hours, and my rare steak was presented to someone else. However, usually it's fine. The fish sandwich looked good, and the prime rib sandwich is one of my favorites. The wine is great -- a decent local selection. Houston's is close to the Embarcadero, and offers a view of the water, and a comfortable steakhouse-wooden furniture atmosphere. There is also a long bar in the center, where it is often easier to find a seat for a meal than withstand the wait. It is owned by the same gargantuan restaurant group that owns the Rutherford Grill, Los Altos BAG, Palm Beach Grill, Cherry Creek Grill, and so on. 3.6

but the food, ambiance and service are terrific. The spinach artichoke dip can't be beat, and the ribs are fall off the bone tender. The restaurant has a warm and homey feel (1 indoor fireplace and 2 outdoor). Couple this w/ the live jazz and a few cocktails, and one can see why Houstons is such a popular after-work stop. I used to go to Houston's in Chicago for prime rib, which came with one of their huge salads. All for $26! Am I dating myself? Prices have gone up a bit since then (and you don't get the salad now w/ your prime rib), but hey, at least they don't charge a corkage fee if you bring your own wine ;- )

the food is very good, but i think $16.50 for a salad is kind of expensive. also very long wait, everytime i go there is about 40-45 minutes to get a table.

Houston's is a great place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations�well just about anything! The food is great, a little pricey for steak and fish entrees, but no cork fee is a major plus! The ambience is wonderful, and the staff is very attentive and friendly. Make sure you grab a table next to the fireplace if you are having a romantic evening.
