Ella's Restaurant

Description

Even on famously dreary San Francisco fog-filled days you will still find a line forming out the door of Ella's a classic American-style restaurant. Well-heeled patrons flock to Ella's for the freshly baked goods. Everything from the pot-pie crusts to the hamburger buns are kneaded, rolled and baked on the premises. The menu changes weekly but you will always find American favorites such as hearty Burgers and the to-die-for Chicken Pot Pie and Meatloaf plate. You will also find classic drinks such as Gibsons and Manhattans available from the bar. On Saturdays and Sundays the brunch crowd is advised to get an early start, because hungry stomachs start the line half an hour before the restaurant opens its doors.

Since Dan ahs sold the restaurant to the new owner it has gone down hill fast. the coffee was cold and old and the waiter was rude. we went to ella's on a regualr basis when you had to stand in line to get in . The bread wasd homemade and the best cinamen rolls ever. now it is horrible . I will never recomend it to anyone . When Dan ran it you were always made to feel welcome and it was warm and inviting . you never minded waiting inline because it was well worth the wait. NOT NOW !!!!!!!!!

I just went to Ella's today because I wanted to know if what people talked about are right or not. Well, what can I say? They're right and this place is wonderful. I wait for about 25-30 mins but it's worth it. The place is a little bit crowded but the atmosphere is nice. The staffs are friendly and though there there are lots of people, they still give you enough attention. Customers are kings here and I am so glad that I went there because the food is also nice. I definitely going to go back to Ella's :)

Perfect breakfast
By ,
I had a hard time deciding what to eat, but since everyone had pancakes I had to indulge. Excellent choice even though everything loked great. A small town feel in a major metropolis. No wait Monday at 10AM.

Worth the wait!
By ,
Despite having to wait 30-45 minutes to eat brunch on a sunday morning, the restaurant was fantastic. The food portions were quite large and the fast service was appreciated. I would recommend the italian benedict and the chicken hash.

Great amazing food

I love the food here and have gone a few times just after opening for Breakfast on weekends. The place is very busy so either come early or be okay with a line. Favorites are Brandied French Toast On Honey Oatmeal Bread Shrimp and Pasilla Scramble and the Fresh Baked Sticky Bun or Slice of Coffee Cake

OMG Can food really be this good?
By ,
Ella's? How can a little hidden place be described with words? Easily! Fantastico! After many visits, today i decided to venture off the Chicken Hash (I will be back for more). The Eggs Ella just about killed me with delight. At first, you see the dish and ask, is that Spinach. Then you dig in and are taken on a ride through true breakfast bliss..Ella's has found the key to excellent food and superior service...Yes the wait can be long at times, but did Michelangelou rush when he was painting the Sistine Chapel? From the corner counter seat, one can observe the staff working together as a team...Anyhow, i could go on and on, but I will leave you all with this, Ella's is the place to enjoy a relaxing meal all the while meeting new and friendly people. Go Ella's!

Nice Place
Good food in this neighborhood. The brunch is very good, but it is a long wait. It's hard to find a good, reasonably-priced brunch, so this might be a good choice if that's what you're looking for.

Breakfast of Champions, Locals and Loyalists
If you haven't had the chance to try Ella's in Laurel Heights for breakfast - you're in for a treat. Ella's not only has the nicest proprietor, Danny, but the staff is like an extension of some of your favorite family members. The best kept secret is the food - don't miss an opportunity on the rare weekend when Ella's has Poppy Seed Pancakes on the menu or for a savory fix the potato scramble with feta, spinach and pine nuts fills the hole nicely, too (for my fellow Atkins friends, Ella's will gladly substitute potatoes for eggs!) Crowd control - weekdays are your best bet followed by Saturdays. On Sunday, even though Danny is a friendly chap, the wait can make you a bit cranky. Danny - a word to the wise - serve O.J./Mimosas to those hungry waiting masses on Sunday! We will come back anyway - but the thought would be nice. Don't forget to enjoy the spectacular floral arrangements. Best seat - Right Side Counter, to watch the crew make fresh biscuits, breads and pies behind the counter. (Hard to believe there is that much butter in the universe....) Ella's provides you with a change up to your basic scrambles, a flare for variety, friendly staff, and cozy neighborhood atmosphere. Did I mention the POPPY SEED PANCAKES? Molly-Pacific Heights
