Description

We do one dish exceptionally well--prime rib. House of Prime Rib sprawls over five rooms with comfy banquets, spacious tables, and fireplaces. There are two fresh fish dishes on the menu, but we have been known for fine prime rib since 1949.Gift Certificates available by phone or in person.

On every visit to the States before, the beef I have had has been outstanding and really packed with the kind of flavour we do have, but rarely get, in the UK, so I had high hopes for this place. What I got was a big slab of the tenderest but, wait for it, utterly tasteless beef that I have ever eaten, accompanied by sloppy mash and the most revolting spinach ever. Couldn't wait to get out. There are far far better places to eat in San Francisco.

I have had Prime Rib at a lot of different places over the years. Different states, different countries. This is the best Prime Rib and the best value any where in the world. It is consistantly the same good experience. The plus is, I have three large dogs. I try to go later than early because when ever I ask for bones I have received as as many as a box full. Boy, do my dogs love me after a night at the House of Prime Rib! And boy, do I love the House of Prime Rib!!!!!

I've only had prime rib in a few places, but I have to say this place is the best by far. They start you off with a salad, which the waiter spins and tosses for you. I love the dressing that the use - I've never quite figured out what's in it, but it's awesome. Then they give you your choice of potato, creamed spinach or corn, and some Yorkshire pudding, to go with your prime rib. I always get the creamed spinach; it fills you up very quickly, but it's so rich and good. The Yorkshire pudding has grown on me over the few times I've been to House of Prime Rib; I like the egg-y flavor and the way it tastes when it soaks up all of the juices from the prime rib. As for the prime rib itself, I usually get the English cut, which is thinner than the normal one; personally, I think it tastes better that way. I slather a ton of the stronger horseradish on each bite (which grosses out my boyfriend) - the experience is priceless. The best part? The whole thing for less than 40 bucks a person, not including tax, tips, and drinks. The service is impeccable, the restaurant is clean (almost a regal atmosphere), and the food is wonderful. I can't afford to come all the time, but I'm definitely coming back sometime in the next few months.

House of Prime Rib was a good experience for me. I took my mother to eat there and ordered exactly what we should have: Prime Rib. They carve and serve you at your table, which I found a bit odd (rather than just service to the table), but it didn't impact the food's quality at all. The Prime Rib was juicy and tender. Unfortunately, I was at a booth, which was a little uncomfortable, so be prepared for a booth if you go.

awful side dishes

It was my 3rd or 4th visit. I ordered the city cut. The salad was bad and watery. Baked potato was tiny. The pudding side had no flavor, even with the meat juice. And the meat was not as good as before. Their dessert menu is empty as well. I'd rather go to Fleming's for better food, better wine, better dessert and better experience.
