My husband and I ate dinner here for valentines day....what can I say I have never had such incredible service. Our waiter greeted us with a smile. His name was Josh, he was very nice and polite. We never had to wait for anything. The prime rib was melt in your mouth delicious..during our dinner we recieved a upsetting phone call which caused me to cry, quickly the waiter escorted me to the rest room, as I pulled myself together the manager came in to check on me. After returning to my table she came to offer drinks on her. I have never been treated so wonderfully in a restraunt, if you are in san francisco and do not eat here you will be missing out on a lovely meal and service. I can not wait to go back.

When i was flying, i opened a magazine and saw the top steak houses in America, THE HOUSE OF PRIME RIB was listed number one in San Fran so i decided to go with a buddy of mine. MAKE RESERVATIONS EARLY!! it was 5pm when we called and they only had reservations for 930pm that night. We arrived and its a very nice inside, nice bartenders, we were seated and they ONLY have PRIME RIB, they made us a custom salad, awesome sourdough bread freshly made, and when we're ready to order they rolled out the cart and cut our prime rib to our choice of thickness. We ordered the KING HENRY (just used to determine size) ($43 BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT) i got mine medium and its pure HEAVEN! Will go to this place EVERY time i visit San Fran. Best Prime Rib I've EVER eaten!

Excellent! The prime rib was the best I've ever had. The atmosphere and unique preparation of the meal, start to finish, was an interesting presentation that added to the meal and the service was flawless. Highly recommend.

This dinner was a gift from the love of my life because she knows I am a red meat lover. We arrived about five minutes ahead of our reservation and were told that they would be "opening another room" shortly so it would be a few minutes. We looked for a place to sit and wait but where? Nowhere to sit so we did our best not to get in the way as they seated others who arrived after us?? Then "Ron" arrived with his date..... Don't know who he is but they tripped all over themselves welcoming him. We finally wound up seated at a table next to them. Our waiter was obviously told that they were special because they never had to wait for anything, unfortunately none of that rubbed off on us at the next table. My wife ordered the smaller City Cut and I ordered the House of Prime Rib Cut (also small), we both had the salad and the Yorkshire Pudding, Creamed Spinach and Baked Potato. What a terrible disappointment. Hers was small but IMO, so was mine, less than 1/2" thick (you could almost see through hers), both medium rare. It tasted OK but not exceptional and I would have thought for the money, they would have taken this whole roast and set it aside because it had so much silverskin through it. The fixin's were decent, about equivalent to the beef. I must say though, we both thought the dessert and double Caps were good. I hate to be negative but it was disappointing to say the least. Not only was the food only soso but the ambiance....well there was none, terribly noisy. I think next time I want prime rib, we'll go to Applebees, then at least if it's not good, I won't be so disappointed, about 1/3 the price.

This is my husband's favorite restaurant and we come here for special occasions. We enjoy the atmosphere, the food, and usually, the service. Unfortunately, the last time, our waiter was distracted. For example, we had to prompt him to even get dessert. When my husband made his selection, the waiter walked off without giving me a chance to order. It was rude and I would honestly expect to be asked first, being a lady, from a first class place House of Prime Rib claims to be. There was a mishap with food selection at the table to the right and something wrong with the table to the left. Other than the service....we loved the food. I must note that I am particularly fond of their coffee also. In some restaurants their regular coffee is awful, but I look forward to enjoying a cup of coffee with my dessert (if I have a chance to order it :-)). If the service improves, I will move up the 4 stars to 5. Going there this Friday!

ON NOVEMBER 13 2010 I HAD A DINING EXPERIENCE THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE HAD IN MY LIFE. I HAD A 4PM RESERVATION. FROM THE TIME MY WIFE AND I WERE SEATED, I COULD SEE THAT THE WAIT STAFF WERE A WELL OILED TEAM. IT HAD THE APPEARENCE OF A BALLET. THE SALAD WAS ABSOLUTELY THE LARGEST SALAD I HAVE EVER SEEN. I LOVE A GOOD CUT OF MEAT THAT IS WELL PREPARED. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. I HAVE 2 CRITERIA THAT I CONSIDER THE ESSENCE OF A GOOD STEAK. I ORDER MY STEAKS MEDIUM RARE. IT IS HARD TO GET THE STEAK HOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND NOT LOSE THE REQUESTED DONENESS OF MEDIUM RARE,THE OTHER IS THE PIECE OF MEAT DOES NOT NEED TO HAVE ANYTHING ADDED FOR FAVOR SUCH AS SALT AND PEPPER. OUR WAITRESS BROUGHT THE HORSERADISH TO THE TABLE. I NORMALLY WILL USE HORSERADISH JUST FOR A FAVOR ENHANCER. MY PRIME RIB WAS SO GOOD IT DIDN'T NEED ANYTHING ADDED. IT WAS THE BEST PRIME RIB I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE AND I AM 58 YEARS OLD, I HAVE EATEN LOTS OF PRIME RIB. I WAS EXPECTING THE PRICE OF THE DINNER TO BE MUCH MORE THAN IT WAS. I HAVE PAID MUCH HIGHER PRICES FOR A PRIME RIB DINNER AND DIDN'T GET NEAR AS MUCH IN THE WAY OF STARTERS. IF I WERE TO RATE THE PRIME RIB AT THE HOUSE OF PRIME RIB FROM 1 TO 10, I COULD NOT DO ITBECAUSE IT IS IN A CLASS ALL BY ITSELF. MY SCORE WOULD BE A 100 THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL DINING EXPERIENCE. Awesome Ribs. Truly spell binding, mouth watering ribs. But the service though...oy veh! The waitress was great. It was the hour and a half wait that sucked. I even called ahead (because I've been there before) but it'd been a while. I was told by the pleasant hostess that we could make reservations but it wasn't likely we'd get a table.

Great Ribs. Truly excellent, mouth watering ribs. The service though... Our waitress was more than helpful and courteous. It was the hour and a half wait that sucked. I had called ahead (because i had been there before) but it had been some time. I was told by the pleasant hostess that we COULD make reservations BUT that not only was it likely but it was probable that we would be seated in 25 mins (for the date and time that i had planned on visiting) so we did not make reservations ( a mistake i admit). An hour and a half later and many people who were seated first (which was a surprise since we were "next on the list" and some how "2nd on the list there after" we were seated. This i could have dealt with, especially with our waitress who did all in her ability to provide service beyond what was expected. But it was it was the management. They had heard of our distress and made it a point to come over and apologize with what was more of a back handed insult. They finished off our "apology" with a question. "I don't know why you did not make reservations you HAVE been here before". I found this quite insulting to my intellect and condescending. I would have been better off not speaking to management. My delicious meal was tainted by the sting of someone asking me my motivations for an action that was guided by THEIR employee. Thank you very much, I'm sure i won't make the mistake of listening to any of your employees again. MY BAD. I would like to note that i do not normally go out of my way to speak bad about a business (especially a local independent one) but i must vent this time. RIBS = 5 STARS though

Just returned from a wonderful evening--dinner was a trip down memory lane and I can't wait to make the trip again! This is a restaurant that memories are made of. Excellent food, nice, clubby surroundings and crisp, attentive service. Hope you're around forever!

This is a true legacy. The best in Prime Rib served in the custom of great steakhouses. The equivalent of Peter Lugers Porterhouse but Prime Rib. Served table side cut from the bone to your request. Old dark interiors. Very busy bar with excellent bartenders. Service is good but demand is so high your not ging to receive very much tableside manner. If you like prime rib this is a must
