The main thing to recommend One Market is it's location-- great if you're meeting someone who's staying downtown or if you want to take a post dinner stroll along the Embarcadero.
My dish was ill-paired with fava beans, which overwhelmed it. My companion had an unremarkable filet mignon. Many of the sides are just puzzling and don't go well with their main dish.
I will say the mini banana cheesecake was delicious!!
We had to make a reservation for 8:45 PM - well over one month in advance. I knew we were in for some dissapointment when we first drove up. The valets were standing around and had to be summoned. They then exclaimed that at 8:45 we were one of the last reservations for the night. Later when we left - the valets were gone and we had to go find our keys.
The waiter also showed that he was in a hurry to get us out of there. He took the drink order for only one at our table and left before the rest could order. We had to summon him back to finish placing our drink order. He likewise tried to wisk the wine list away before we could order a bottle of wine.
And then when we ordered dinner - we were told that the special of the night - filet mignon was not available . We thought that was unexcuseable. The food that we ordered was superb - so that was somewhat of a redemption.
I wanted this to be a special evening - and was disappointed.
One of the most shamefully overpriced and mediocre restaurants I have ever been to. I'll make sure I let everyone I know what I think of One Market. You people should be ashamed of yourselves, and for crying out loud hire some decent bar employees who know how to take and fill orders properly.
