R&G Lounge serves traditional Cantonese food that is enchanting enough to transport you to the world of Canton. The salt and pepper dungeness crab, shark's fin, abalone and sauteed vegetables are some wonders from the kitchen of R&G. This place is very popular in Chinatown for its minimally-greasy fried crabs and steamed whole fish. The restaurant has a number of private rooms that have silken hangings providing a feel of China in San Francisco.

Great food, one of the best in the city, hands down. However, would have given it 5 star if not for service (none to speak of) and the difficulty in making reservations.

Will Never Eat Here Again Until Shark Fin Soup is Removed From Menu! I was very upset when I found out that Shark Fin Soup was on the menu. I should have got up and left that moment, but I didn't. Regardless, I feel terrible that I didn't leave. After watching the movie SharkWater, I've become very passionate about saving sharks and educating friends about the movie. Thousands of sharks are killed only for their fins and thrown back into the water to drown. We need sharks in our ecosystem to survive. One very important way is to not order Shark Fin Soup or even better, not support restaurants that have it on the menu. I have written a letter to the restaurant asking them to remove the item from their menu.

My wife and I tried the salmon egg rolls and salt and pepper crab at the recommendation of the bartender and waiter. The egg rolls were cold, definitely prepared way ahead of time and not to order. The $38 dungeness crab was battered and deep fried. This made the usually delicate crab taste greasy and unappealing. Deep frying a hard shell crab not only makes no sense, but made the process of trying to remove the crab from the shell much more difficult and a greasy mess. I wouldn't return if the meal was free.

I like their crab. Yummy Yummy! the only not-so-good thing there is long waiting line.

This is one of the best Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We ordered clam w/black bean sauce and the sauce was to die for. Same with the seafood clay pot. I had no wait the first time and my wife made me go back, because she liked it so much. We had a 15 minute wait the second time. The salmon avocado egg rolls were outstanding. Hot and sour soup was OK, but the taste snuck up on you as you finished it. Was recommended by a SF Local and he was right on. Great place.

Based on others' reviews, this was a place I had on my list to visit while in the area. I wasn't disappointed! The service was fast to start with, the food was delicious! We ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken with Cashews, Fried Rice, Vegetables and Spring Rolls. Everything was tasty and fresh without any oily, greasy residue whatsoever! I was pleasantly surprised and impressed and never got a headache from the food or needed to visit the restroom ;) You walk into the bar area at ground level and seat you downstairs for restaurant seating. They got really busy and we had to wait a while for our check but the server was kind and apologetic. Good service, great food - and a VERY CLEAN Chinese Restaurant!!!
