In case you weren't aware, 'za' is short for 'pizza' and pizza is exactly what this place does best. Located on Hyde Street in Russian Hill, Za's patrons can feast on thin and crispy slices while watching the bustle of neighborhood dog walkers and listening to the thump and chime of San Francisco's famed Cable Cars. The pies here are strictly New York style and regulars will attest that Za does it right. Three tables and a handful of stools at the counter make the place cozy, but mean you may have to wait a bit on a busy Friday night. See website for menu.
Good pizza but if you live in an apartment building don't expect delivery to your apartment. Last week the delivery person called me on my phone and said he was downstairs and I said to use the security code on the buzzer and I would let him in but he said no, could you come down.
There's nothing wrong with the slices here. It's tough to find better more inventive slices in the Bay Area. But if you're ordering for delivery, be sure to allow for plety of time and don;t be surprised if you have to order twice - they can be a bit forgetful.
On Hyde near Union St. The crew have been there for years and know what they are doing and do it well. If you come to San Francisco drop on by and have a great slice of pizza! right in front of the cable car route. Skip the warf, this is A hidden treasure of San Fransico you cant afford to miss!
Best pizza I have had in SF. Great, NY-style thin-crust pizza with interesting topping combinations. Nice staff, good selection of draft beers, a fun place to hang around and have a slice. I lived around the corner from Za for 5 years and I can't imagine how many times I've been there...
