Tommy's Joynt

Description

Both inside and out, Tommy's Joynt is an eyeful! It is huge and historic, with murals, animal heads, and various odds and ends, all packed into a building that is over 100 years old. Lines can be long, but you will move down the cafeteria-style procession quickly. Choose your sandwich, grab a pickle from the barrel, and sit. A server will be by soon to take your beer order. The international selection, both on tap and by the bottle, is shockingly large for such an all-American place.

Longstanding favorite
By ,
Tommy's Joynt remains a reliable favorite for its extremely low prices in exchange for insane amounts of hearty food. It's open till late, which makes it one of those rare late-nite-munchies places in the city. The selection of beers is extensive and international - I prefer the Italian beers myself, as well as some of the English ales. Two gripes though: one is that it's cash only, but they do have an ATM conveniently by the entrance. Another is that it can be hard to grab a waiter/waitress in there. Be prepared to wait if you need a refill or another round. But for its location, price and quality, it's worth it. Check out the daily specials too.

Tommy's Turkey Sloppy Joe and Turkey Enchilada are very tasty!! It's a great place to have a casual dinner or have drinks while watching a game. You'll definitely be full after a meal here!

Great Food!!!
By ,
Have been there 3 times and each time was a real treat. I think they have the best sandwiches around and the best prices in the Bay area. Wonderful pastrami and corned beef that is sliced in front of you. I don't drink beer but my friends said the selection was great. I will definitely eat there again the next time I am there and I will recommend it to friends. The building is old but that is what gives it its character and sets it apart from the others. Maybe that is why they can keep their prices so reasonable.

Great place to eat before/after a movie
By ,
This restaurant is really close to the AMC Van Ness. It's a casual restaurant/bar that serves great food. We had the plate dinners when we went. Meat, mash potatoes, salad and a roll. Very yummy. They also have sandwiches and other items on the menu.

Buffalo Stew! Bean & Bear soup! 'Nuff Said!
By ,
Tommy's Joynt (and yes, that's the correct spelling) is a loud caffeteria-style restaurant and bar. If you can deal with that, then I strongly recommend it! My friends (the ones who've never been to Tommy's Joynt, anyway) always look at me strangely when I recommend the buffalo stew over a bed of rice. But trust me on this one: It is INCREDIBLE!! Round out your meal with a bowl of Bean & Beer soup, a hard roll and an Anchor Steam beer, and prepare for something wonderful!
