Description
Located in the heart of San Francisco the Restaurant serves authentic Swiss cuisine in a smart Alpine setting. Our carefully crafted Fondue menu, extensive wine selections, impeccable service and elegant, yet cozy atmosphere brings the best of Switzerland to your dining experience.
This place is not good for large loud parties and is very overpriced. You have to have a very strong love for swiss cheese because that is pretty much the only choices you have when it comes to the cheese fondue and the bread had a weird taste. We have excellent service except for the misunderstanding with the bill, there is not fondue for one even though it is listed on the menu. The only good part of the meal was the chocolate fondue because who can go wrong with chocolate.
One of the first restaurants I came to as a tourist to San Francisco, and it is an impressive place to take your visiting relatives since cheese and chocolate will soothe even the most riled of souls.
The decor is kitschy for sure. I believe even the waitresses were dolledup in costumes. Light and clashing!
The food is pretty good. I don't have much room for comparison, merely because it's hard to find dedicated fondue restaurants with this many dippy things. Especially scrumptious is the meat fondue...mmm!! Way more figure-friendly than the bread in cheese mainstay.
If this place had any competition, it would have been out of business a decade ago (service, decor, food), but I have to admit that when I get the fondu jones, this is where I go...
We asked for dining recommendations for good fondue at our hotel. The only had one answer - The Matterhorn. It lived up to expectations! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the fondue was authentic. Strongly recommend!
Best to use a cab ($5-6 fare) to get there as it is a little out of the way for cable cars and walking.
No dislike..everything wonderful..except..hard to find parking..that is only thing keeps me away~~I went with friends and my man..and we really enjoyed the atmosphere..more fun..good food..
This place is very nice and romantic. Good for group size of 4+. Gotta try the red wine meat fondue. It's great! The cheese fondue is alright...It's a little bit pricey but good for special occasion. The services were really good and friendly. The owners come and greet you and also they made sure you don't have unanswered questions about their food and the appropriate way to dive into the fondue. It's worth to try this out once or twice...But the drawback is the parking around Van Ness Ave.
we love coming here with group of 4+ (but sometimes I like to come alone & remember my Alpine holidays) extensive winelist & helpful staff assist to make fondue night a favourite several times a year (especially during our rainy winters!)
The owners of this restaurant really care about your experience! They know their regular customers, even if they only see you twice a year! The food is incredible and well priced. We have never had a bad experience there after four years. When we want a romantic dinner we go to the Matterhorn.
We have dined at The Matterhorn for over ten years now; long before it hit the rave reviews in SF newspapers. Bridget, the owner is wonderfully welcoming and the fondue, in its various flavors is exquisite. Make sure you have a reservation.
