Restaurant Gary Danko, San Francisco

Every year I go to the top restaurant in the region in which I am living. I am a chef who has traveled the country training and dining. I spent $600 dollars on dinner at the French Laundry last year, Oliveto another, Chez Pannise, Picasso, Le Bernardin, I know good food, service, and wine. As a fellow CIA graduate I had additional insight when it came to Danko's restaurant. I expect to be treated like a member of a family where we are the starving artists that will never starve. Yet I left unfulfilled and only able to afford a glass of Pierre Jouet for $18! The half bottles started at an astronomical ammount. The Server didn't know what the amuse was, the maitre d was the friendliest staff member there but that bordered on overly flirtatious. Very dissapointin. I would not got back and not only would I not reccomend it, I tell everyone that I meet in the industry to not waste their time.

This place is by far the best restaurant I have been to in terms of the food. Everything was incredible. The cost of the wines are definitely way to high, but somewhat expected for this type of place.

My wife and I dined here recently, the food was great. We chose the 4 course dinners and each had the wine pairing. It was a great experience, they bring a different wine with every dish. I highly recommend the lobster risotto. Our waiter was great, very classy. It is very expensive, but worth a try.

To go here, is to know great food, and thus, no long review needed. Expect to pay around $800+ for a dinner for 3 or more (thats including wine). Again, well worth every penny. Those who are jet-set know Gary Danko to be the best SF has to offer. No other place is worth your time and money.

The food was spectacular, but the service was terrible! The waiters were snooty and arogant. It is too bad the service ruined this wonderful experience! We will go somewhere else next time where the servers are happy to have you there!

everything was great

My wife and I took a long weekend trip to San Francisco, taking in the city and also Napa. I did some research online prior to traveling to CA, attempting to find a nice restaurant. I found the review stating that Gary Danko was the top restaurant. Now we both know why. We had NO reservation, but sat at the 11 seat bar and had a riot with the bar tender Dave, and other couples sitting at the bar. We had the 5 course meal which was outstanding. There are many choices and you truly can't go wrong. A fantastic experience - a little pricy for some, but very much worth every $$. Off to Napa tomorrow hoping for a similar experience.

There is nothing that I did not like about this restaurant. Everything was excellent. The place, the decor, the people serving, and most of all, the food was excellent. For my first course, I ordered the Foie Gras with cherries which was so good and for my second, I tried the mouth watering lamb loin. My daughter and her three friends all enjoyed their food and the ambience. Service was EXCELLENT.
