Description

Hailed as the nations best new restaurant by Esquire Magazine when it opened in January 1997, Crustacean Beverly Hills has been lauded ever since by the press worldwide for its' awarding winning Euro-Vietnamese design featuring the now famous "Walk on Water" entrance - a serpentine aquarium that winds through the cocktail lounge of the restaurant, guiding guests to the French Colonial splendor of the main dining room. Daughter Elizabeth An's interior design, a recreation of her grand-parents French Colonial estate in Hanoi, has been the focus of articles in USA Today, InStyle, E, Style Channel, and CNN. The family's Secret Kitchen and cuisine has been profiled in The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, the French newspaper, Le Figaro, Wine Spectator, Food and Wine, Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines.

Recommended to us by a friend (Thanks Heidi). I have to agree with most of the post here. They had a dress code which I liked (they told us when we called for reservations). Had the roasted crab, the garlic noodles, and fried rice and they were all superb! Our server was Paul and he was on top of everything. Spoke with some of the customers near our table and they were all very friendly and fun. The Manager stopped by to see if they were meeting our expectations. Great experience. We will come back here on our next visit to SF.

It felt like a typical fusion restaurant in Vegas (in not a good way). When we walked in, the staff gave us a look, and told us there's a dress code (which wasn't even mentioned in the menu). The sauce on the Pan Roasted Halibut was too salty. Ravioli wasn't bad at all, but they didn't serve it with any bread - I had to order a side of garlic bread. Granted I did not have their famous crab (because crab was not in-season), this restaurant is overrated and overpriced. If they were 30% cheaper, I would give it 4 stars. They should stop pretending to be a high-brow gourmet restaurant and adopt more family friendly atmosphere.

The food was delicious, especially the well known An (sp?) noodles, but the lobster and noodles wasn't all that. VERY little lobster so pretty much a noodle dish. Service wasn't the greatest, and a bit pricey. Dinner for two with wine expect at least $150 easy. But the food itself was good.

funky building -- great seafood (yes the crab is wonderful but didn't have the noodles) and service. pricey but worth it -- lobster salad was almost new england worthy

Each dish was delicious!
By ,
Most of the customers in the restaurant got the crab special, and it was obvious why. It was delicious, although people who don't prefer pepper may not like it. The portions were small, so we ordered one dish per person. We ordered all fish dishes, and they were all deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this restaurant. This is a place you'd want to wear nice clothes to - I felt out of place in jeans.

aw jeez...

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!!! VIETNAMESE FOOD SHOULD NOT COST THIS MUCH!!! It's not even close to being authentic. Garlic noodles? Lemme tell you --- if I took my Momma here to grub --- I'd be disowned. The crab? Being the sister restaurant to Thanh Long --- let's just say --- this stuff is what fiction is made of. SO NOT TRUE and IN YOUR DREAMS... fun to entertain the thought of it being somewhat decent --- but when the reality check comes, you're gonna find out you're BROKE. For not better reason than you've been SERVED a really great bunch of wannabe foodies attempt at writing lame ass reviews about food I grew up on... that SHOULD NOT COST THIS MUCH!!! Whew... Now about the service...

Excellent Experience
By ,
I have been to Crustaceans' in San Francisco, CA many times and every single visit was a pleasurable one. I can remember once when the service after dining was very poor but outside of that, I have nothing negative to say. I think this is an experience everyone should have and I will say as I always have,.......you will never taste Garlic Roasted Crab like theirs!!! I would pay $34.00 again and again, you only live once..... And for those negative people out there, don't hate...congratulate!!

warm decor, a bit pricey
By ,
i've always heard great things about crustacean, so we decided to give it a try. after climbing the stairs (didn't realize there was an elevator), we entered into the nicely decorated restaurant, where the host greeted us, and seated us promptly without a reservation. (the chairs are very plush and comfortable!) luckily we got there early, because a little later, it seemed like all the tables were full. we ordered the tamarind crab, the noodles they recommended with the crab, squid and green papaya salad, and a filet fish dish served over noodles (sorry can't remember the name). being a big crab eater, i thought the crab was just ok - sauce was simple and tasted like any other tamarind sauce that could be found at a vietnamese restaurant. i enjoyed the papaya salad - there was a good balance of fish sauce so that it wasn't overwhelming. the fish dish was good, but wasn't something i would go back to eat again. perhaps i just didn't pick the right dishes to blow me away. otherwise, the service was excellent.

Garlic Crab FEST
By ,
This is one of the best seafood places. Garlic Crab and noodles are the best. Also try the grilled Calamari. The garlic prawns and the lobster is good too. Kinda messy but the bib will catch all the flying shells. Kinda pricey. Sister restaurant is Thah Long(sp?)

Crustacean's
Love it! Related to Thanh Long... Same food, great taste - this spot more upscale of course.
