Thirsty Bear Brewing Company
Ron Silberstein shed his legal skin to turn his home-brewing passion into a successful business. The ThirstyBear is the only brewery of its kind in the city and prides itself on an array of organic ales, artisan beers, creative cocktails and the Spanish classic, sangria. Silberstein's Spanish influence extends onto the evolving menu of traditional paella and contemporary tapas renditions like grilled house-made butifarra sausage, oven-roasted stuffed peppers, gambas al ajillo, and herb-lamb skewers, made from ingredients sourced from local Californian producers. From the outside, this brew-pub has the look and size of a warehouse. The interior, replicates that vibe with exposed beams and tasteful art that form a intriguing backdrop to lively conversation.
terrible mojitos and terrible sangria! never order either of these here!!
otherwise, they do make a genuine effort at spanish style tapas and cuisine. the halibut cheeks, patatas bravas, and the various paellas are all worth a try. i've also heard the lamb burgers are pretty good, although i'm not a fan of lamb so i haven't tried for myself.
although, given that it's a brewery, i kind of wish they just had regular brewery food. at brewery prices!!
I was pleasantly surprised with what I found on the other side of the warehouse like facade. The atmosphere was comfortable, the service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent. A good place to go with a group of friends to share delicious tapas.
We had reservations for a friend's party and needed to add four more people. They were not accomodating whatsoever and said it would be impossible because they were full. When we got there, there was PLENTY of room, yet they refused to seat us until most of our party came.
The food was tasty, but nothing special. It ended up being very expensive for the portions they served. This would be a place to go to have a drink or two, but as a restaurant, it wasn't great.
Our server was nice and the food did come quickly. This would also be a good solo dining place (as long as they don't get mad that you take up a whole table)
This is the place just to hang out and have a good time. Good drinks, food, and atmosphere. It just a place to relax. You can have a drink with a meal, but without having it feel like a restaurant. They also have a dj and a pool table. Just a cool place to hang out.
