Ruth's Chris Steak House
Ruth's Chris Steak House specializes in serving aged USDA Prime steaks, broiled in a trademark 1800-degree oven and served on a plate heated to 500 degrees to ensure the steak stays "sizzling" hot. To experience fine dining at its best ... Just follow the sizzle to Ruth's Chris Steak House!
My advice is to avoid this place like the plague. WAY, WAY, WAY over-priced for what you actually get. I mean, $6 for a baked potato (this was a couple of years ago, it's probably worse now)? I had the seared ahi tuna, which was WAY overcooked (I won't eat the gray cooked part). Don't even bother.
I had dinner last night with a group of 4 others and was not impressed. First, it seemed that because we were not drinking alcohol it made the waiter want to turn the table over and rush us through dinner. Next, one of the my guest and I ordered the Filet cooked medium rare and it arrived medium well. They took it back to the kitchen and had another served 20 minutes later...after the others had almost finished dinner...and served it cold in the middle. I eat at a steak place once a week with clients and this was my third time to this Ruth Chris and maybe my last.
April 2006 Update: I usually love going to Ruth's Chris, but this time, we did not have the best experience, and mainly because of the service: my 'medium well' filet was 'medium rear' and when I asked to get it cooked more, it came back overcooked; the T-Bone was good but not great, and the quality of the meat was not as good as it used to be... they were supposed to bring bread with our meat and it arrived with our check (when 3 people told us they would take care of it) and same experience for the water refill. Very busy people, I guess:) If you live in the Bay Area, I would recommend that you go to Alexander's in Cupertino; the quality of their meat is great (with meat display at the entrance), the decor is classy and the atmosphere intimate and the decor is awesome!
Review posted in November 2004: I have never been disappointed by Ruth's Chris. Their steaks are excellent, tender, and cooked as requested and the side dishes are also good; I cannot comment on the dessert menu as we had no space for it!:) The service was good too. Reservations are highly recommended: we arrived 45 minutes early and were hoping to sit quickly but we had to wait for our time. Fortunately for us, the bartender was very nice and offered us a second round of drinks on the house, how nice!!!
