Piccadilly Fish and Chips
If any fish and chips can aspire to being an upscale dining experience, these are the ones that just might qualify. Cod flown in from Ireland is deep-fried to crunchy perfection in an oil that is remarkable for the clean flavor it imparts to the fish. The fries are thick-cut and crunchy on the outside and rather like a baked potato in the inside. For authenticity, there is malt vinegar on hand to sprinkle over the goods before diving in. The place itself is typical fast-food in design, but the counter staff is friendly and efficient and the food is worth going out of your way for, as many of the customers, who range from delivery guys to lawyers, do.
After reading some really good reviews of this establishment, I finally made a trek across town to try some English style fish & chips. I was astounded to be thrown a basket full of grease that tasted like clams. Obviously the oil had not been changed in a while and the chips tasted of old grease as well. I also ordered some onion rings and squid, both of which was inedible. We ended up leaving without eating anything. Horrible experience would not recommend to my worst enemy. Do you self a favor and go next door, the Indian joint looked much better. You might just go to Safeway and buy $30's worth of cooking oil. Two thumbs down.
