The service was excellent even though it took a long time between appetizers and entrees. The food, however, was anothet issue. I was there about a year ago and loved the food. This time around nothing on the entree section of the menu read enticing. All food seemed contived and so i settled for the southern fried chicken which was acceptable. The braised duck was drenched in sauce. The worst was the appetizer dish of shrimp in Worcestershire sauce. Floating on a bed of sauce was a piece of bread soaked with sauce and 3 medium shrimp on top, sort of Cuisine Brutale. The only highlight next to the service were the creme brulee and the apple crisp. This meal awas one huge disappointment and i wish them well in a city where the competition is fierce.

I really wanted to like Town Hall. My friend had raved about it for weeks. When I finally went, I thought it was..... Good, not great, but good. The service was a little spotty. Server forgot our drinks and there was a long time gap between our appetizers and drinks. The food was tasty, not mindblowingly so but solid. I may try it again and see if the kitchen/servers have a better night.

I came here highly recommended for dinner between Christmas and New Year's. The location is decent and the service was okay; however, I felt as though the food could have been better. The place was somewhat empty because of the holidays, so I don't know if the kitchen wasn't firing on all cylinders but our food came out slightly overdone/dry, and with way too much salt on it. The staff was friendly but not exactly attentive.

Excellent
By MALE, 4/30/07
Everything about TH is great, except for it being overrun by tourists. On a recent visit we walked by a table of 3 on a Sunday night all on their Blackberrys. The flavors on the menu will take your taste buds on a journey thru the Bayou. The BBQ shrimp appy is awesome, the Pork Chop is awesome. My advice: Share an appy because the food is very heavy but unbelievably GREAT.

much ado about nothing
By thomas m, 10/27/06
i went to Town Hall for a special anniversary dinner about 4 months ago and sat outside...we were ignored for about 20 minutes and had to go BACK inside and remind the staff that we were outside and ready to order..the food took too long...was served by a different waitress then the one that took our belated order, then had to wait for a 2nd round of drinks...the food was average at best, and WAY overpriced and when we were finished, we then had to go BACK inside AGAIN to get the check (which was served to us by a third wait person...too many good restaurants in SF to waste your time and money here...it's too bad also, because i live right down the street and i really wanted to refer people there, but i obviously can't do that. Much ado about nothing

Great Food, Great Prices
By Sharon, 10/27/06
We spent New Years Eve dining at Town Hall and what a great place it was. The food was fabulous especially for the price in such a great city. This is not just an ordinary restaurant and many well-known people visit this restaurant. I highly recommend it.

Go for the veal meatballs, the Ahi Tuna tartar with fried green tomatoes and the Niman Ranch Steak. Great food, loud atmosphere and terific service

Dinner with friends
By Andrew, 5/26/06
Town Hall is located south of Market Street, close to the financial district of San Francisco. I went there with a group of friends in late May, and found the experience to be very enjoyable all around. Excellent / simple cuisine, a good wine list, and a really nice atmosphere (dressy casual). We had a few orders of the fried chicken (moist and full of flavor), a great jalepeno cheese/egg bruscetta, and very reasonably priced wine (Rex Hill Pinot). Service was good, but not exceptional....but I am not one who enjoys exceptional sevice as defined by the industry. Easy access to the freeway for the non city dwellers.

The food was great, as was the service. Our waiter was very helpful with menu choice. Nice, comfy decor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
