The burritos are great now that you can get them with rice inside. I never understood why you couldn't before. But you still have to ask for it. The main problems though are 1. The constant reggae music. What does reggae have to do with Mexico? For a couple of weeks they switched it to random classic rock and it was much better. The owners were probably on vacation. Now the constant, annoying reggae is back. 2. NO PEPPER! How can you eat Mexican food without pepper? There is salt on every table. The food does not need salt. No restaurant food ever needs extra salt. But pepper is absolutely mandatory. Every time I ask for it, they don't seem to care or understand why it is so important. I used to eat there every day, but after asking, and asking for pepper, and getting tired of the infernal reggae, I gave up.
If you're a 22 year old Marina guy/girl, this is your place. The food was fine and the place has a collegiate atmosphere where everyone seems to know each other. I'd eat here again, but wouldn't go too far out of my way.
i live 45 minutes outside of the city by car. if i take bart, and walk the rest of the way, it takes over an hour and a half. AND IT IS ALL WORTH IT. tonight i will go into the city just for nick's. the tacos are phenomenal - get it Nick's way. chips and guac are fabulous.
i am very critical of mexican food, and nick's is the best i've had in the bay area!
