Empress of China
Description
A hanging picture on the wall boasts of the restaurant's most famous client, former President George Bush. In addition, the staff will inform the visitor that in the 1960s and 1970s this restaurant was a favorite among many Hollywood personalities. Dim lighting reflects off the authentic Chinese antiques that line the walls. The atmosphere is cozy and the restaurant is quiet enough for an intimate conversation. The clientele consists mostly of tourists and a few loyal locals who have been patronizing the restaurant for years. Entrees include such wonderful items as minced squab on lettuce leaf, as well as a host of other exquisite gourmet Chinese dishes. In addition, the restaurant has a full bar and serves a range of beers and California wines. Please see the website for further information.
For $50 my son and I split a soup for two, one entree and a vegetable. Unfortunately, we had a hard time eating the food. The Mongolian lamb was highly recommended, but contained so much fat it was hardly edible. The view was nice and service was good, but food was what I would expect to find in a fast food restaurant. All chicken dishes are made with dark meat except for the lemon chicken. My guess is this was a nice place 20 years ago. The awards on the wall range from the 1960's to 1989.
Excellent Chinese food with large individual portions. The service was also excellent with the wait staff taking care of our every need. Beautiful classical chinese decor with a great view looking north toward San Francisco Bay. Arrive early to get the best of the seating with a view of the city. Our dining experience at the Empress of China was memorable.

the food was very delicious and also had a very spectacular view showed all of china town.and very nice people there's also good tea.
good spot to go to
Fabulous food and atmosphere...just passing by and decided to go in. Turned out to be awesome! The food was fresh and flavorful without all the MSG and heavy sauce. Great selection also.
Very good food. We enjoyed our dinner there.
The children ate with chopsticks, were not rushed at all. We have a very picky eater and he loved the vegatable chop suey.
Food was ok, but you can get way better chinese food in SF(even down the block) . The food was over priced. The view and service are the only positive things I can say about this restaurant.
The food is okay. Nothing too outstanding and the service is okay. Parking can be a headache though because it is in the middle of Chinatown. But if you were holding a big party of a couple hundred it would be a good place to have it. I've been to alot of weddings here.
The food is excellent! I come to San Francisco once a year and I always make it a point to eat here. Everything I order is excellent. If your ever in town do yourself a favor and drop by, you wont regret it!!!
