Description

For a taqueria to survive the competition in the City's Mission District, it has to be more than just good - it has to be great. La Taqueria, an unpretentious place with an appropriately mission-inspired decor, is just that. The tacos and burritos come with a variety of flavorful meat and vegetarian fillings, and prices that'll tempt you to order more than one. Regulars swear by the Carnitas , made from slow-cooked pork and seasoned to perfection. It is a casual, friendly place that has been feeding the locals for over 25 years.

Old, tough tortillas. Tough, fatty meat. Overpriced. First time there, the food was horrible. Tried it several times since...just kept getting worse. No redeeming factors in that place at all.

As a San Francisco native, I thought I'd be hard-pressed to find a terrible Taquera joint. Well, I look no further. This place is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. From the moment I ordered (the lady behind the counter made a rude comment about me to another worker, she didnt know i spoke spanish) I was confused to see set prices for burritos but upon ordering, my sub-total was no where near the listed price. $ 1.20 for advocadoes?! $ .50 for cheese?! Last time I checked, cheese was a main ingredient in a burrito. Anyway, the damage was $18 bucks for a two burritos (in the Mission?!) I asked for chips and they said it was extra. For 18 bucks, I think chips should be complimentary. Whats worse is, when we opend up the foil, the whole thing just fell apart and it was gone in 5 bites. Absolutely THE WORSE TAQUERIA IN SF. My advice, go to La Corneta right down the block. They are more friendly, the portions are satisfying, and they dont charge you 9 bucks for crappy burrito. Not to mention I have never been insulted by any of their staff members.

Since back in the day
By ,
My parents lived in S.F. in the 70's and upon returning after a nearly 30 year hiatus, the first thing they did was take my sister and I to La Taqueria. To say the least, I've been back a few times since.

It Was Another Taco Joint
By ,
I have no idea what the raves are but this place was okay. It wasn't any better than most of the other taco places. Some are way better like Zona Rosa in the Haight.

I just don't get it
By ,
I went with 4 friends to get burritos and nobody thought this place was that good. I would rather eat at Sanchos in Redwood City.

sad but true
I lived in the Mission for five years. It's unfortunate that people still conider SF taquerias so special when more authentic and better tasting Mexican food is found in southern cal. Even Roberto's in Vegas is better than any bay area mex. It's like, let's see how much beans rice we can stuff in a tortilla. Puh-lease.

GREAT BURRITOS!!!
By ,
I love this place! They do not have rice and the burritos melt in your mouth! The green salsa in the tube is spicy and delicious. The guacamole is fresh as well as the meat. I will drive 35 miles from Palo Alto to SF to get a burrito from La Taqueria!!!

Great tacos and burritos
By ,
No matter what kind of meat you choose to get for your taco or burrito, you won't go wrong. All meats are grilled fresh. The tortillas are nice and thick. But the topper is their green spicy tomatillo sauce available on all the tables in the restaurant. Nothing compares to a La Taqueria taco or burrito.

Simply the Best
By ,
I've been coming here since I was a kid. It's my favorite place for burritos, tacos or quesadillas. I love the menu here, genius in its simplicity. My standard order here is a carne asada burrito plus guacamole and cheese. If you eat there, be sure to try the green salsa on each table. Great agua frescas too. If you have room for more, go next door to Dianda's for a cannoli.
