Good restaurant for special occasions
By ,
I went to Cortez for my 52nd birthday with my husband 2/06. Like everyone mentioned, it is expensive. We got four tapas, the halibut and grilled prawns were wonderful. For dessert I got the chocolate truffle cake. Wow, I may go back just for this outstanding dessert. Get the recommended liquor that goes with this dessert as well. You won't regret it. I thought it was a very nicely decorated restaurant and I thought that the service was very good. No problems whatsoever. I just wish you got more food for the money.

Small plates, huge taste
By ,
This super-hip restaurant's main claim to fame is their small plates, although they now make full size servings. I'd stick with the small plates when dinning with friends, as it encourages sharing, and gives you a leisurely dinning experience. The food is incredible, I loved the ricotta ravioli especially. Their specialty drinks were delicious, and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The decor was very po-mo, but not so much that it was tacky for this traditional girl. The price was a bit steep, but well worth it for special occasions. I look forward to going there with my friends again.

great dinner out, but pricey
By ,
it's a nice place for fancy dinner out -- the small plates were all fantastically tasty, the decor is great (some David Brunicardi furniture in there), and the atmosphere was alive. But it's not cheap.

Good tapas, but pricey!
By ,
Space is fabulous, the wait staff very attentive, the drinks very delish, and the food quite tasty and good. But, I think the food is way overpriced. I do love the tapas style dining, but on average, these small plates are from $15-18 a piece. You can easily rack up a bill. If you can indulge, go for it, but I'll take my money elsewhere. IMHO, the food is good, but not that good to command those prices.

Black heels with fishnet stockings and a red dress
By ,
A towering space with glamourous fabrics, shapes and architecture. Starting the meal with soup shots warmed the palate, followed by Foie Gras Terrine, Steelhead Tartare, Glazed Duck Breast, and finished with Fries with Harissa and Zaatar Spiced Aiolis. Every tapa plate was beautifully prepared. The space is dark and red and the food is very dramatic. Be aware the servings are perfect and minimalist and set one up nicely for a delicious, melt in your mouth dessert. Espresso and a Tawny closes the meal very neatly. Very cool and cold walking in, very sexy and groovy walking out.

An exceptional dining experience
By ,
Finally dined here the other night after hearing excellent recommendations for the past couple of years. I was not disappointed. Service was great and the atmosphere was lovely. We ordered the crudo of the day (red snapper), the rare lamb noisette, the foie gras terrine and the prawns a la plancha. the prawns were definitely my favorite, followed by the foie gras. Well, the crudo was delicious as well, so fresh! For dessert, we had the beignets, which weren't all that exciting. All in all, I cannot wait to go back again. There are many other dishes I would love to try out.

the best i have ever eaten, their salmon almond pizza is the best in the city and the chocolate mice make a great way to finish a meal. Try to get joel as your waiter as he is very good and polite.
