Basil Thai Restaurant & Bar

Description

Enjoy Basil's creative approach to Thai cuisine in an attractive, tranquil, contemporary setting. Pad Thai, Gai-Kra-Prow and other traditional dishes are offered, as well as Basil originals like 'Basil's Panstickers' and 'Fire Calamari,' and seasonal specials. The presentations are striking and the service is pleasant. No surprise then that it has been quite popular ever since it opened, so dinner reservations are recommended.

Great Thai in SOMA!
By ,
This place is by far my favorite place in the South of Market Area (SOMA) in San Francisco for Thai Food. The space is small, but well utilized. The bar is made of concrete and keeps the warehouse feel that enables the edge that those who love SOMA have come to expect. The food is the best part of the restaurant. Anything that involves chicken is great and the pot stickers are unbelievable. Definitely check it out if you're up for a low key, but nice, Thai dinner out in SOMA. It's also close to the heart of SOMA nightlife.

This is the best Thai restaurant that I have ever been to in the entire USA! The prices are very reasonable, the food is stellar, and the ambiance is wonderously modern and enjoyable. The wine list is also decent for a place in SOMA. The service is unbeatable for Thai restaurants. My favorite dish is the chicken-stuffed eggplant with green curry. Just the right amount of spiciness. Make reservations on the weekend.

My wife and I have come here several times, and we have been happy with the food and service each time. The dishes we've ordered have all been excellent, with good portion sizes too. The restaurant has a pleasant decor. Finding a spot to park has required driving around the block a few times, and it's not in the nicest part of town. But it's great food, and we will continue to come here.

I eat at this restaurant once every two months, The food is very good but the wait staff is slow and some are rude, restaurant is clean and nice. If they made changes in the wait staff I would eat there more frequently. If their was another thai restaurant close by I would go there instead.

Thai basil.. great food, sleek design, loud
By ,
Love the food here, every dish I've had is excellent. It's a cut above most thai in the city, definitely has a california gourmet edge to it. The only downside is that the restaurant, when crowded, can get pretty loud.

Stylish decor, and good food. Friday nights call ahead as it can get crowded. My wife loves this place.

Easy Parking, Good Thai
By ,
With your typical white tableclothes and wicker chairs, Basil Thai serves up tasty (if not spicy) thai food. It's almost worth ordering off of the appetizer menu alone. Try the fried shrimp egg rolls and lamb satay. My favorite entree is the kang gai, with chicken cooked in a yellow curry with basil (what else) and bamboo chips. The pad thai is also delicious, as is their spicy seafood soup. In fact, I've heard very few complaints about any of the dishes. Check it out if you're in SOMA. The screaming fish by the door are also nice.
