During a recent stay in San Francisco at The Hilton, we walked the short distance to New Delhi Restaurant. On the evening we were there, part of the restaurant was being used for a private party... an Indian family was celebrating a birthday. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. The wait staff was very attentive and we were impressed that all members of the staff were attentive and ready to assist us, not just one assigned waiter. The menu is comprehensive and it was hard to choose. For our starter we selected Samosas and they were the best we ve ever had. The pastry was perfect and the stuffing was balanced and savory. For our entrees we chose Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Vindaloo. They were both excellent. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant on our next visit to San Francisco.

I went here because I heard so much about the place. I must say the nan bread is the best you will ever have. I thought the prices were very reasonable and the service was through and efficient. The atmosphere was just what I was looking for: warm and romantic. By the time my entree had arrived I was stuffed from the bread and samosas. But I am Italian so I pressed ahead ... It was so wonderful I didn t want to stop eating! I will recommend New Delhi to everybody and will be coming back for years to come

Recently dined here for the first time and everything was superb. The food is authentic and delicious. The chicken masala was nice and spicy just like I like it, though you can get it milder if you prefer. Veggie samosa and naan were both great, too. Cozy and elegant atmosphere and pleasant service. I ll be back!

Good food, good service, and good atmosphere add up to a solid 5 stars for New Delhi. My friends and I ordered chicken and lamb vindaloo and also chicken and lamb kebabs. Everything was delicious. The kebabs were juicy; for the vindaloo dishes, there was a good amount of meat and I liked the sauce. The heat level was impressive, but not overbearing. The presentation of the food added a nice touch to the meal (and the kebabs came out sizzling, too). Great place to go with friends or a date.

What is there to say except I loved this restaurant and everything about it. It was definitely packed right now, but the atmosphere inside wasn t overly loud and crowded. We arrived around 6:00 on a Thursday and were able to grab a seat at the bar without a reservation (though I think we got pretty lucky there). We wanted to try a lot of different things so we did end up having a pretty large price tag on our dinner. If I went back again I d limit myself a little more. We tried the samosas (tasty, with light spices), the tandoori platter with mint and tamarind chutney (heavenly) and the rogan josh - spicy lamb curry (holy yum!). We also tried one of their nan breads and a dessert (yeah we went a little overboard). It was all wonderful with great service to boot.

Worth the trip!

We went to New Delhi Restaurant for the first time this week and were quite impressed. Our server helped us pick the perfect wine in our price range and was extremely helpful pairing it with the menu items we ordered. The nan bread was out of this world! We were avlittle afraid to order the lamb vindaloo, since it can sometimes be an inferno but, to our surprise we loved it. The best dish was the chicken korma that we had heard so much about. The sauce was rich and slightly sweet, the prefect compliment to the meat. Our server was also very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed... Shimu was his name. We ll be back to try some other things. Great Job!

New Delhi Restaurant is my favorite weekday lunch spot. Parking is a little difficult, as it s near Union Square, but the food is well worth it. The basmati rice and sag paneer are two of my favorite things on the menu. Rich sauces and spices, beef and chicken, peppers and vegetables, all so amazing to the palate. There is also a daily drink special and they just added a new dessert to the menu. My personal favorite is the chilled rice pudding. New Delhi Restaurant offers rich, authentic Indian flavor for a good price in a soothingly upscale setting. It s a perfect respite from your hectic workday!

After hearing about New Delhi from a work friend, my wife and I decided to put this restaurant on our must try list .. and we are so glad that we did! We arrived at the restaurant without reservation - not the smartest thing to do on a VERY busy Friday night. However, our wait for seating turned out to be extremely pleasant since we got to hang out in the bar. After a reasonable wait, the hostess seated us at a quiet table towards the back of the dining room. First thing I notice is that the ambiance here is very elegant -- decor is spot on. The moment we sat down and browsed the menus, I had a good feeling about this restaurant. Their cocktail list is extensive and top-notch. We were able to choose the perfect drink to go with our appetizers. For entrees, we enlisted the help of our very nice waiter to sort through the menu options, and ended up ordering the samosa appetizer along with two main entrees. And for dessert, the mango ice cream. In one word, the food here is OUTSTANDING (!!) The mango prawn dish is one of the best entrees I ve ever had anywhere, and the naan here is so tasty that we ended up ordering some to go. Overall, this was a truly great dining experience, and we will definitely come back for more! Highly recommend to everyone.

Excellent, very rich flavor. The quality of the dishes was excellent. Warm service; the owner is inquiring without being intrusive. We had the special biryani and the rogan josh and naan and left stuffed. The raita and chutney condiments were really flavorful; the raita went well with the biryani. Overall a wonderful time and we will definitely be back.

Amazing This place is authentic, classical and yet very modern and contemporary. The food is delicious. I can tell that Chef Ranjan can appeal not only to the American diners but can blow away the Indians too. Ask them to spice it up and they bring you ambrosia. Starting from the service to the appetizers to the entree to the desserts, everything was just perfect. Will definitely visit multiple times.
