Canto Do Brasil
Serving authentic Brazilian food and located just off of Market, it is not too hard to miss. Just look for the big yellow and blue awning. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual with Brazilian touches. Native Brazilians come here, as well as people who just want to have a taste of something different. You can get huge portions of galinha na cerve which is chicken marinated in dark beer or pernil recheado, which is leg of pork stuffed with vegetables. All meals come with rice, beans and yucca flour. The service is terrific. If you want to truly experience Brazilian cuisine, try the feijoada completa . It's a traditional stew of ham, sausage and beans, slowly simmered with Brazilian spices.
Watch out at this place. MAJOR bait-n-switch cheating going on. The waiter hands you a menu without prices. When you ask for prices, he lies. When the exorbitant bill arrives, you ask for the manager, who just shrugs. You can make a big scene, but they ve clearly seen it before. I say go somewhere else. There are plenty of great restaurants with honest business practices.
Went here for dinner before seeing Wicked at the Orpheum. Wanted to impress my date, and the place was absolutely fantastic. I had the caprihina drink, which was very good but she had a mojito, which was the best mojito either of us had ever tasted! The eggplant salad was awesome, and the salmon pate with the bread I could eat for a meal all by itself. She had the red snapper which was delicious and I had the feijoada which was outstanding. We missed the samba dancers because we had to go to the show. I hit a home run by picking this place. I thought the prices were more than reasonable, and the service was excellent. Our waiter Victor was kind and attentive. He suggested meals but wasn't pushy at all. The place was half empty at 7pm on a Friday which surprised me with food as excellent as this. Definitely will go back and recommend to friends.
I love this restaurant, especially the lunch menu. They have this chicken with vegetables dish that is so good, I order it every time. The prices are great, the food is fresh and very good. I used to go here alot when I worked in the area and recently I went back and they knew who I was. Great people!
This is one of the worse restaurants I've been to in a long time. We were there celebrating a b-day party after seeing it on Check, Please Bay Area. The only good part was the birthday hat. When we it was time to pay, I handed the credit card to the waiter since he never came to the table except to deliver our food. He ran the total, and didn't provide any detail - we had to double check with him that tip was already included because he definately did not deserve a double tip. 3 people at my table had the Piaya (spelling) and they said it was aweful. I had the pumpkin special and it wasn't special. We were there from 7:30 to 10 and saw 2 dances - nice but again nothing special for $300.00 for 6 people. I recommend going elsewhere - this might have been special once, but they forgot that the customers matter.
Canto do Brazil is a great date dinner restaurant. The food is great, interesting, and very exotic. This is a fun way to eat something different, and turn an awkard date fun. The staff was very helpfull as we tried to pick the dishes and were extremely friendly! Sandra, one of the female staff is fun and made us feel welcomed and like old customers. Look for her! THe food was very tasty and the cocktail drinks strong and exciting. I will for sure return there again.
My wife and I liked everything about this restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was perfect, and the ambiance was romantic.
It is within walking distance to the civic center which makes it convenient if you are going the the opera or symphony. We especially liked the friendly staff. We were treated like old friends even though it was our first visit.
We plan to take another couple with us the next time we go. In addition to all of the great things about Canto do Brasil, the prices are very reasonable. One can also find vegetarian dishes.
