The Ruby Skye is a great place to have fun, but have thugs-one in particular at the door. I attended a private conference party with passes only for entrance. It was raining and I stayed with a friend under the marquis to stay out of the rain. The thug wanted us to get in line in the rain. I told my friend to stay where she was and we would enter last staying out of the rain. The closely shaven head thug looked at my elderly friend up and down four times in a most disgusting manner. I called him on it and he didn't know what he had done. I found this behavior to be true in Costa Rica, but don't appreciate such disrespect from a male in this country- especially to a 70+ year old woman. Inside the waitresses and barmen were wonderful and building is divine. Fire this guy and it will be a great place! Minus two stars for the door thug.

This place is for those that don't know what San Francisco is all about. For fun, go somewhere else, where you can appreciate creativity and being welcome. Only snobs and people who want to flaunt their jewelry should come here.

HIP HOP PEOPLE - this is not the place for you! This is where all the world class trance/progressive/house DJs come to play. I am a hardcore fan of the music so I am here quite often. The music here can get extremely loud. I'm one of the few that bring ear plugs. This is one of the only clubs where the music stops at 4 am. Expect to pay around 9-10 dollars for a simple mixed drink. Guy to girl ratio can get pretty bad. I would say more than 2/3 of the crowd are guys. But of course - for me, this club is all about the music. I would rather go here than all of the clubs on every other street that play hip-hop top 40.

Average space, world-class DJs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/26/07
Ruby Skye is one of a handful of clubs that get really big electronic and DJ acts on a fairly regular basis. I've seen a bunch of DJs here including Mark Farina and the Crystal Method. It's pretty medium sized with not much seating other than in the VIP areas. The VIP is so-so. The balcony view is pretty cool since the space used to be an old theater. The VIP service was pretty spotty, but that's clubbing for you. The sound system is pretty good and of course loud. I pretty much only go for the music so I can't really rate it in terms of other clubbing goals but I can say it's not as much of a 'meat market' as some place like 1015. The kinds of acts coming through kind of give you an idea of what kinds of people come here. It's mostly house and techno which means it's not a hip-hop 'in da club' venue nor is it usually a candy-glowstick raver affair. All in all it's not a bad place that gets pretty big acts. There's no sort of bouncer type exclusivity BS so that's nice. If you don't look homeless and have money they'll let you in.

One of the best palce to go CluBBing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/06
The great thing about RubySkye is that they always invite well-known world class DJs for show on the weekends, like Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, Ferry Corsten, Mark Farina, Steve Lawler, Deep Dish.. you named it. First, you really have to appreciate the world of Techno/House/Trance/Electronic music to go to this club, otherwise you are wasting your money. Second, Drinks is around 7-20 bucks, but you will get your money worth, and well this is right in the heart of downtown SF. I wouldn't be surprised if Ruby Skye is probably on the list of the best club in the world. You will also find a mixed of crowd in this club, Europe, Asian, and some American too. PROS: Great Sound System, World Class DJs, Open till 3:30am CONS:

Ruby Skye

Hey people, If u like Ruby Skye, u havnt been to a real night club! We are from third country (married couple) but we have not seen such a night club in our life. Dance floor is very small, music is so so, crowded and no design at all, sorry but we felt it was boring especially for America and SF!
