Sanraku Metreon is tucked into Yerba Buena Gardens, located inside the Metreon in SOMA, just a short walk from several of SF's best museums, the Moscone Center, Imax and other movies. We serve only the freshest fish, with a great selection of traditional sushi and cooked dishes in our very complete and imaginative menu. Service was fine...not like the one star from the other review that had horrible service. The issue is the food and the price. Price is always second to good food and the size, quality, and taste here are almost awful. The chicken teryaki sauce is bitter and the chicken was very dry. Salad dressing was oil and vinegar with almost no flavor. Miso soup was ok but had no green onions. Nigiri quality was ok but size was absurd...after eating a couple orders of Nigiri Saki, I was not sure if I had eaten anything. Price must be high due to the rent and they are probably in business due to the constant flow from Moscone Center. There are many better choices than this business/tourist location.
Sanraku at the Metreon was great. The food was super good, well presented, and fresh. The atmosphere is real nice near Yerba Buena park. The prices are decent too. It's perfect if you are staying right close or have a conference at Moscone West. I'm hear for the Web2.0Expo 2008.
Brad and I frequent this place as much as 7-10 times a month.
What's really good here?
Try the Sanraku tofu. It's tender chunks of Tofu tender with a soft and crispy coating and then tossed with bell peppers, onions and teriyaki sauce. They serve it with rice, miso soup and salad. Very yummy. I am not a vegetarian and I really love this dish.
Their sesame chicken is wonderful. Thick deep fried chunks of boneless white meat chicken delicately tossed and coated in a teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds.
They service this with steamed rice and a salad tossed in their signature vinaigrette.
I introduced my significant other to their Dragon Roll and Rock and Roll.
The dragon roll is a fresh california roll with a full layer of unagi (cooked teriyaki bbq'd eel), and the rock and roll is unagi and avocado wrapped in sushi rice.
The nice thing about this restaurant is that they are very efficient, clean and friendly.
They have unlimited refills on soda's!
I've never had sushi with so much flavor, I thought I was eating a juicy tender slick of pork of something. My favorite sushi spot in the city. It's so not like you're typical sushi restaurant, just watching the chefs prepare each dish, you see the culture and taste it in the food. The price is a bit much but totally worth it, I could probably eat the whole menu because it's so good. I like this place and the setting is not bad at all, have had dates there and the workers there are soo nice so go check it out for sure.
We have been frequenting this restaurant for five years (somtimes 3 times a week.) It is one of our most favorite places in San Francisco. The chefs are very talented. Some are best in traditional Japanese cuisine, others are creative with fusion style. Do sit at the sushi bar. That way you can find out from the chef the best fish of the day. If you like it and return, they will remember you. Their best chefs will remember details such as which fish you prefer with ponzu, and which with soy. Zagat survey complains about poor ambience. You won't notice it at the sushi bar. If you prefer tables, there are plenty with nice decor in the front of the restaurant. Service is very friendly. There is a Sanraku Card program which will get you coupons equivalent to a 10% discount. Sushi is expensive in general, or risky when cheap. The value you will get at this place will be the freshness of fish (everytime) and attention to detail in preparation of your plate.
SanRaku has to be one of the best Sushi restaurants I've eaten at. On a Wednesday evening, the place was jammed packed with Japanese... I must have been the only american in the joint. I managed to grab a place at the Sushi bar where the chef promptly began placing delicacies in front of me! Outstanding! Going back in December and will definitely revisit.
