Reminds of authentic South Indian food. Good taste. Simple and fast service. Went on Friday evening and got our order real quick. Definitely worth the trip.
Summer time, inside of the restaurant was getting a bit warm. Could open the main door to let the air in.
The food sucks. I can do better at home. The wash area both inside the rest room and the two sinks outside have a bunch of mold, and stinky. You go to wash your hands and it is sick. i told Dharmaraj on my first visit and then revisited 6 months later it was worse all around the sink.No more for me.
It was Monday morning. Didnt feel like going to work. My wife wanted to eat Idli. I thought, let me take care of her while at home. Searched for Saravana Bhavan timings which opens @ 11:30. So found Komala Vilas opens @ 8:30 so wanted to get there.
I ordered Idli and Chili Dosa... I somehow didnt like the appearance of Idli. I felt I am definitely in NEVERLAND. My wife wanted to eat idli but looking at it, she said, NOPE. After I pushed her, she ate one and said I can make REAL IDLI's @ home myself. I dont know what we ate @ KV is idli at all?
The other day, we went to another place in sunnyvale. There the idli was much worse. Looks like they are using power boiled rice instead of 'Idli Rava(I Love Ravi Brand)'. Also, they seem to be grinding the rice with the Urad Dal. This looses the texture of the Idli.
Watch it before you want to eat when u go there.
Simple (and authentic) South indian food. Wait time for sunday lunch was way too high. They serve unlimited quantity fixed menu 'thali', which is great. But since its fixed menu, I feel the price is a bit on the higher side.
I will go back, but will not take any of my 'american' friends.
Well, you really have to take my friends' words on that, since I really have no frame of reference I've never been to India, let alone the southern part of it. For lunch, they give you these silver plates and serve up a healthy portions of different types of spicy concoctions. Aside from the garbanzo beans, I didn't really recognize many of them, but they sure were tasty! If you're looking to get full at lunch time, this is a great place. They continue to pile food on your plate until you tell them to stop.
This is the only restaurant in bay area that comes close to the taste of home cooked food. Let me put it this way, this is the only restaurant that my mom approves of. The only negative for me is the distance - since I live in Foster City. I still make it a point to go there once every week. Two thumbs up.
It's a great place for good south indian food. Their lunch which is a fixed menu , unlimited quantity for $8 is good value for the money. However, their dinner items are bit pricey for the money you pay and quantity you get. It has typical Indian mess like ambiance with Tamil songs or movie playing on the TV . You can play a game of TableTennis or carrom while waiting for the table in the side room.
