If you want a solid italian meal check out Frrankie Johnnie & Luigi Too. The food is good and the portions are filling. Service is a little slow sometimes when it gets busy usually at night or on the weekends.
The atmosphere is family oriented, which means the noise level is quite high, filled with all the excited chit chats or your neighboring tables. Many children dine at this restaurant, and unfortunately they run around yelling, even squeezing between the wall and my chair without much care. The food is pretty good, but a bit pricey for the quality and atmosphere. A shrimp scampi is about $15, but you could get that price at a nicer restaurant as well. The ambiance is warm, reminds me of a Buca De Beppo without the plates. I'd come back again and try the pizza that everyone's raving about.
Frankie, Johnny and Luigi's (FJL from here out) offers some pretty decent food, at pretty decent prices. What they don't offer is excellent customer service, great food or quite dining.
I'll go over each. I've been to FJL twice now. Both times, I've had decent food with generous portions. Nothing terribly inventive in the typical american-style italian restaurant. On the second visit, I was with a group of friends who suggested we split a pizza, and I was quite surprised by the quality. The dough was chewy but soft, air bubbles had formed and popped in the crust, and the sauce was flavorful, but not too sweet, with a hint of basil.
Both times I've been sat right next to a table with small children throwing things about and wailing. The wait has been long both times I've been there, so if you are in anything larger than a group of two or three, plan ahead and make a reservation.
The wait staff was exasperating on my first visit. I think my table was visited three, maybe four times by a clearly exhuasted waiter who was visibly annoyed by the behavior of the children at the table beside me.
The second visit my waiter was good, but the host was rude.
So my suggestion is order a take-out pizza by phone and pick it up. You won't have to deal with the wait staff or the crowding, and you will get what is by far the best offering of the restaurant: the pizza.
