Kabul is the ultimate dinning place for Afghani cuisine. A great place to venture whether one goes there for lunch or dinner or both. The ambience and dA(C)cor is warm and welcoming. The prices are reasonable for the plateful of delicious food. One can never go wrong in choosing a meal. There are many varieties for one can choose from. The appetizers are perfect samplings of what is to come. The lamb kabobs are phenomenal. With an array of kabob selections, the menu also caters to vegetarians.
As an Afghan American, I know what REAL and authentic food tastes like. On a recent business trip, I looked on line at the closest Afghan restaurant near South SF. I went there for dinner one night and was majorly disappointed.
First of all, I ordered Aush (Afghan soup) for appetizer. Not only it was outrageously priced ($5.25 for a cup of soup?), but the taste was not authentic. It was bland, needed salt, and had no flavor. Traditional Afghan Aush is exploding with flavor. Campbells canned soup has more flavor and tastes better than their aush. For the main course, I ordered aushak which is like dumplings filled with leeks. This was also very poor quality and taste and had NO flavor and had no salt. I guess if you are in a NO salt diet and do not like too many spices, this would be a perfect place for you, BUT if you want TRUE and authentic Afghan cuisine, this place is an absolute JOKE. I just feel bad for those first time Afghan food tasters IF they experience this place, they have a bad impression on REAL Afghan food.
There are many many Afghan restaurants throughout the Bay Area that would easily surpass this place
delicious Afghan food! We love the mantu (afghan ravioli) and the kadoo (pumpkin). This location is not as good as the Sunnyvale location.
Beware of upsetting the owner with misguided attempts at humor - he can be a little stuffy and old fashioned.
A good Peninsula spot for a quiet, slightly more leisurely lunch meeting. (Also nice for dinner or groups.) Several good vegetarian options. I particularly like the vegetarian planner, which includes the perfect amount of the pumpkin dish.
I've been to this place a half dozen times. My wife discovered it. I've tried about 4 different entrees, all excellent. Prices are descent, portions are huge, and quality is great. Always good service. It's all about the Kabobs
