I ordered the Tomi Bento and it came with chicken teryaki, tempura, rice, cooked salmon, 3 California rolls. The salmon was the first thing had an overwhelming fishy smell which totally turned me off on the food. The tempura was good and the chicken definitely needed to have more teriyaki flavor. Overall, I think the service was good, food was a tad bit better than mall japanese food. Harsh I know but I like Mashi Sushi off San Antonio or Fuku Sushi so much more.
I lived in Japan for 7 years and know the real thing. This place is excellent. the owner blogs daily about the specials (english and japanese) so you can find out what amazing dishes he'll serve. Excellent sake selection also.
Since I am new to the city I decided to try this place based on these ratings, but surely regret it. I've had way better sushi that this at a fraction of the cost. The waiter was very rude, maybe overwhelmed by the number of people she had to wait on.
I was looking for a good quality sushi restaurant in south bay ever since I moved back home from LA. The sushi restaurants around San Jose are pretty disappointing except this local restaurant in Mountain View, Sushi tomi. Their sushi is fresh and the specials are very tasty. The hot food is not as impressive as the sushi but still decent. I highly recommended this place!
Before moving to Mountain view, my husband and I lived in Japan for two years, and after a few bad experiences on Castro street we were about to give up on so-called Japanese restaurants forever. Luckily we found Sushitomi and were happy to finally find some decent seafood at last! People complain about the prices- and I'd agree, it's not the cheapest- but try the dinner special, which is under or around $12- you get salad, miso soup, and pick two of your favorites to go with it - i like the sashimi and the salt grilled fish, mmmmm! You will hear the chefs and regulars cheerfully chatting in Japanese, and enjoy some great food. It's popular for a reason!
Note: prices have gone up (again) and it's now just out of our budget. Lunch is a bit more managable price wise... but not by much. :(
