Amber India - Mountain View
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Amber India in Mountain View has earned the reputation of the best Indian Restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area. Inside the restaurant you'll find that owner Vijay Bist strives to provide a cozy, relaxing, 'walk back in time' environment influenced by traditional Indian artwork and decor. An extensive vegetarian and non-vegetarian North Indian menu explores the moghlai cuisine and tandoori cooking. To complete a perfect dining experience, you will find an exceptional selection of cocktails, beers, fine wines and traditional Indian drinks along with friendly, courteous service.
Food was only ok, I don't know what all the fuss is about. For people who don't know their Indian food, this may seem like a good place, I suppose. I'll admit the selection was extensive... And this place is much MUCH pricier than most other places.. I have eaten at over 37 Indian restaurants in the Bay Area, and I know my stuff
I really like this Indian food - it's not too greasy or overly spiced, and there are a great variety of flavors - the curry is awesome, as is the naan! The take-out experience is always excellent and they usually have it waiting for you if you call it in ahead of time. The strip mall ambience is less than desirable, but it could be a lot worse. The biggest drawback is that it ends up being rather pricey if you order more than 2 dishes.
The best Indian food in the Bay Area, but they make you pay for it. The food is fabulous authentic Indian food. It is fresh with deep flavors that you expect. Unfortunately, the food is highly overpriced. Also, the Mountain View location is a storefront in a strip mall and is nothing to write home about. The restaurant is excellent for take-out - fast and efficient and they have it waiting at the front desk. This can be a problem if it is a busy night and you have to wait in line, though. Overall, it's worth paying the high price for amazing food.
Amber is an upscale indian restaurant. It is not an eatery but a beautiful restaurant magnificiantly decorated. The menu is adequate though without much originality. The service is good but the place can get really crowded at peak hours. Be prepared to wait in line on weekend nights. THe restaurant would benefit from a relocation as the parking is bad and a different building would enhance the experience.
I had the Sat. buffet at the other (Santana Row) Amber India and the experience & food were quite good.
