Amber India - Mountain View
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Amber India in Mountain View has earned the reputation of the best Indian Restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area. Inside the restaurant you'll find that owner Vijay Bist strives to provide a cozy, relaxing, 'walk back in time' environment influenced by traditional Indian artwork and decor. An extensive vegetarian and non-vegetarian North Indian menu explores the moghlai cuisine and tandoori cooking. To complete a perfect dining experience, you will find an exceptional selection of cocktails, beers, fine wines and traditional Indian drinks along with friendly, courteous service.
I was dragged to this restaurant by some co-workers for a team outing. I wasn’t a big fan of Indian food, before dining here. Wow! What great flavors! I’m not even sure what I had, because there were so many dishes to choose from. I love spicy food, and didn’t realize what I was missing. The Tandori chicken was excellent, along with a spicy pork that was out of this world. I can’t wait to go back. Lunch buffet is a little pricy, but my Indian friends tell me this is one of the best Indian restaurants in the Bay Area.
Excellent food, awful service - averages out to three stars.
The last time I went here, it was with my boyfriend and a friend of mine from school. The waiters didn't attend to us unless we called them over, and they never brought out one of the dishes that we ordered, even though we complained numerous times to different waiters.
On the other hand, the food was very delicious. I've tried their biriyani, chicken tikka masala, fish curry, and many others. All of the curries are very well seasoned, and go well with naan or rice. The food seems to take a while to come out, but I think it's worth the wait.
The ambiance of the restaurant is great. It's a nice place to bring your significant other for a date, with its dim lighting and elegant decor. It's slightly upscale, and the prices are a bit high, but they claim to be the best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area (though not the best service in the Bay Area). Definitely worth a try.
Had buffet lunch. The currys are really good. They are spicy which gives taste of India. The dessert is also good.
Ambience is amazing.
Would recommend all.Should try once gives real taste of Indian food.
All there is to it. Everything tasted wonderful. Try the Poori and the Pav Bhaji. The bhaji was great the pav, not so much. It is a cafe style restaurant. It helps to order in advance, they work well with take away orders.
We have been to Amber several times now and the food has never disappointed. Service levels can be fickle but that takes nothing away from the food which is tasty without being excessively spicy. The ambience too is wonderful.
My husband took me there for my birthday dinner after hearing some reviews. But it ruined a great day! The service was bad. Had to wait amid a crowd and were being passed up! maybe because we were Indians they just didnt care! The food was mediocre. Did not make up for the bad service. There are far better Indian restaurants in the bay area.
Was there for dinner on a Saturday night. The food was salty and inconsistent in its spice level - some were really spicy and others really mild. The menu could have specified what are the spicy dishes! The servers were attentive in spots. Took a long time to take the order and the food took too long to arrive. They said it was a 20 to 25 minute wait to get a table and it took nearly an hour! Went there after good recommendations and got disappointed!
The lunch buffet selection was by no means extravagant but the quality of the food makes up for it. The buffet had 3 chicken dishes and 5 veggie dishes (not including desserts, salads, etc.) All the dishes were very good.
The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable with nice decor. Service was excellent.
