I have been eating at The Van's for over 25 years and it just amazes me how consistently great the food is! You will never get a bad meal or leave hungry! It's hard to say what I love more...The food, the view or the amazing staff. It is wonderful place to go for a special occasion or I can just go casual and sit at the bar and have a delicious lunch or dinner. The desserts are all homemade and change with the seasons so I can always try something new....the Bread Pudding, and Banana Cream Pie are to die for. I would highly recommend going to The Van's just for the experience and to try their great Prime Rib which their known for or the Blackened Filet(one of my favs) or the lobster tail....The Best!! Enjoy Thanks Van's!
My family has been going to The Van's for the past three decades to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. This evening we spent a ridiculous amount of money for decent food...and my grandmother brought a coupon she had received in the mail from The Van's for a free appetizer and dessert with purchase of two entrees for her birthday. Well, long story short....just like with most things in life - it's not what you say, it's how you say it. The manager was extremely rude and argumentative about the application of the coupon. Granted, there were miscommunications on both side...however, the manager is the supposed professional representative of the restaurant. I hope the owner will be very displeased when several members of my family and I call to inform of the managers lack of customer service skills. Customers can be difficult, however a manager's job is to accomodate the best way possible. The Van's manager was more concerned with arguing about how he had been misunderstood rather than being professional, accepting his customer's frustration, and making a $10 accomodation on a $500+ dinner bill.
I used to enjoy this restaurant very much...no longer. I hope the owner will make some much needed changes very soon!
great service, good food, awesome view.
they have a nice variety of entrees. i went with the lamb tbone and i think i made the right choice. the genoese pork chop was really good too.
the waiter and the whole service staff were very attentive and friendly
We had heard a lot of this place so we gave it a try. Ug, big mistake. They totally overbooked reservations had a line of people (20+) out the door with the same resv time. Waited about 45min to sit. Then waited another hr after ordering and we had not been served. Other tables experiencing the same and people we talked to said in all the years they had been this was terrible. Nice view, I guess if you get one near the window....we were put in the back corner. Sorry, hubby coming from family restaurant biz says drinks should have been comp'd and we won't go back.
If you live nearby, this place is worth a visit. This is especially true if you're on a date.
The view from the Belmont Hills is very pretty, but expect to pay a bit more for your average food as a result.
And oh yeah, the parking lot and driveway are very steep. Be aware of this if you're new to that manual transmission car or afraid of heights.
Great east-facing view of the valley and the bay in a historic building. Good food at fair prices and the management works hard to encourage regular visits with an active event calendar. It would be great to see Van's go through a full refurbishment to restore the original building and bring the rest of the decor into alignment out of its current hodge-podge look.

The sister restaurant to Mel's on Lombard Street is often filled to bursting with tourists due to its location (on
