This is my favorite place to read a newpaper without interuption, or met someone entirely new. The staff is great and the service is always pleasant. The coffee is fresh and the goodies are yummy. I give it my highest recommendation.
This is a great place for free WiFi if you are between San Jose and San Francisco - it's 1/2 mile west of 280 - take Alpine Road exit. In the morning there are various baked goods - smart bars with cranberries, scones, bear claw donuts - to have with your coffee. There's also good bagel sandwiches.
This is a community meeting place where the Portola Valley crowd go to get away from their home offices and find out what's going on. There's also a notice board with local information. Art and photo exhibits change regularly. The music is usually lively and varied.
The one peeve I have is the staff start cleaning the cafe while it is open so if you go within half an hour of closing time you may find the Palo Alto Weekly has been cleaned away and you have to sit outside or take the chairs off your table. It would be good if it were open later for the after work crowd.
