First Awakenings

Description

First Awakenings is aptly named, it's a real eye opener and not just with the great breakfast they serve but with the bright surroundings and the friendly staff serving you. The breakfast served here is rave-worthy delicious. Whether it's a waffle, blueberry pancakes, omelets, burritos, crepes, hash browns or just a plain old fruit bowl, you can be assured not to be disappointed. If you're in the city, do not miss a chance to have a hearty breakfast here. First Awakenings is also dog friendly. Although be warned, this breakfast house is so famous you can almost always expect to find a crowd.

This is the reason I return to the area time after time! I love their pancakes, iced tea and wonderful staff!

Best Breakfast in town. Their pancakes are HUGE, I can only eat the single order. Their banana germ pancake is the best pancake I ever had. My husband loves the Works omelet. If you haven't tried it yet, you have to! Just be prepared for a wait if its a weekend morning :)

I spend plenty of time in Monterey and this is the first stop when I get in town in the morning. The outside fire pit is perfect on a foggy morning to eat breakfast. Go, you'll love it!

We had breakfast there and had a great time, it is a short wait but worth it. It is near the outlet center and Monterey Bay Aquarium. We had the eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy!

We were so glad we listened to the reviews here and tried this place out last time we went. We loved it so much we went two days in a row. Make sure you get there before 2:00, they close early, but it's worth it. They give great portions, delicious fresh squeezed orange juice, etc etc. Just try it. It's awesome.

Absolutely fabulous! My husband and I attend MotoGP every year and this was the 1st year we found this restaurant. If you're hungry for breakfast, this is the place! Huge portions, fairly priced, coffee pot and water pitcher left on the table, and excellent chunky garlic pepper sauce to cover the perfectly cooked country potatoes. My husband loved the skillet breakfast best. The pancakes are literally the size of the plate, and the omelette's were fluffy and tasty.Pets are welcome to sit outside on the patio.Staff was very friendly and the service attentive. We were in Monterey 3 days and started each day here.We were never disappointed. The restaurant is just a bit past the Aquarium on Wave St in a 2-story shopping center (the Tin Cannery?).It's next door to a popular hamburger joint.Prices average between $8-10 and are well worth it.First Awakenings will no doubt be our breakfast stop every time we're in Monterey.

Go during the workweek, when all the working stiffs are plying their trades; otherwise, on holidays and weekends there will be a crowd and there will be a wait...30-60 minutes worth. On the other hand, located in the outlet store area, there are a lot of stores to spend time shopping for bargains while waiting for the best breakfast you'll ever enjoy. The menu is extensive, with just about any egg dish one can think of...and then some. I am an Eggs Benedict fan; they have about half dozen different kinds to choose from. My wife likes the veggie omelets; they will put just about any kind you want together. A good breakfast must include fresh squeezed OJ; their's does. The portions are ample and the food is always as ordered. The service is great, even when the waiting to be seated is long, once seated there is someone ready to take you order and serve right away. There is seating inside and out, and the tables are ample; so one doesn't feel hemmed in. The restaurant is located caddy corner across the street from the Monterey Aquarium; so it gets tourists and locals alike. As an inverterate brunch person, I've tried dozens of places in Monterey and out; but without a doubt First Awakenings is the best. This place is highly recommended. Go have brunch and then take in the aquarium.

Great food. The fruit crepes are my favorite. I go to monterey just about every other month, and as much as I can in the summer. Everytime we visit thats always one of our stops. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is nice.
