Great food. Best ingredients. It takes time to cook, so I'm not expecting a burger joint turn around. Have your coffee and read the paper. Great place to meet friends for breakfast or brunch. If people want low calorie food, pass on this place. This is butter, brown sugar and whole cream. This is relatively expensive, but worth it once and a while. This is a treat and should be treated as such. The apple and Dutch Baby are great. The clam pancake is amazing for a savory taste. The fresh fruit crepe with mixed fresh fruit is the best. One friend joined me and had the Dutch Baby. Then they proceeded to eat it dry! If you don't want to mix the butter, powered sugar and lemon together... don't order this. What a waste. No wonder some people are having a cow eating at this place. I refuse to invite people here unless they can eat regular breakfast food. I have never had any food that wasn't excellent. The speed of the staff is slower than other places, but that is fine with me. I have two papers to read.
I have been to this place 3/4 times now and each time I keep hoping something will change. The only reason I keep going back is that it is so close to me. The service is just plain bad. I have never been to a restaurant that is so disorganized. If you take a look towards the kitchen area you will find piles of syrup jars etc and no organization. I sat and watched three servers walk up there to find mill, ketchup and syrup and all of them had to spend a minute looking for what they wanted. Hello... how long have you been in business??? No wonder the service is sooooo sloooooooooow.
The last time I went there (and it will be the last) I picked a half order of french toast which was listed in a shaded are with all the egg items on the top right hand side of the inside left page of the menu. At the top of the shaded it area it said that all items come with a side of pancakes. The price was pretty good - a good deal I thought. Anyway the french toast arrived but no side of pancakes. I asked the waitress about the omission and she told me that the french toast did not come with a side of pancakes. I told her that the menu seemed to indicate it did. She says I have to talk to her boss who was a 50-60 year old guy at the cash register. Anyway he confirmed that it did not and I said that the menu was misleading and that I would like a side of pancakes. Rather than agreeing and saying that in future he would not do this he started shouting at me about how it had never been included and the menu was not misleading and he would never give me a side of pancakes. I could not believe it!!! Now I was angry and told him that he should change the menu or else I would report him to the Better Business Bureau and whoever else I could. Then the waitress (who might have been related to him as she seemed to have some sway over him) grabbed him and ushered him back to the cash register while he continued to tell me that I would never get a side of pancakes - all this for a side of pancakes!! Then the waitress came back and said that they woudl give me the pancakes after all.
I was completely flabbergasted. As I said before I will never go there again. I can handle slow and inefficient service but that was just unbelievable.

A year ago we tried this restaurant, which is close by and often very crowded. We found it friendly and comfortable, but the food tasted terrible. Maybe I'm just not a pancake guy. I ordered the almond pancakes then. They looked appetizing, but I felt very heavy afterwards.
Today after a year we decided to give it a second try. We ordered crepes this time. Again, friendly service, friendly customers, and my cinnamon/apple crepe tasted pretty good, but afterward I felt real heavy again, and within an hour it all came back out.
Their entry on ehinfo .org was not bad, so maybe we're just very unlucky, but if you must eat here I recommend you order just a hot chocolate and bring in your own food.
Let's be honest about what the Original Pancake House is good at - pancakes. The specialty pancakes are amazing. They have all sorts of amazing combinations like bacon pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes and even potato pancakes. But their house specials are the key - the apple pancake and the dutch pancake. You have to try the apple pancake, which is more like a baked pastry. Almost like a breakfast apple pie and very reminiscent of an apple fritter donut. You can't go wrong, although I'd challenge you to finish one by yourself!
The pancakes reign supreme, and there's not much else of note in the dining experience The service is spotty, but acceptable and there is hardly any ambiance. On the food side, the eggs are fine, but nothing amazing. You can certainly get much better omlettes elsewhere. Even the basic pancakes are nothing amazing. The breakfast meats are actually pretty good. As the name would suggest, go for the pancakes and nothing else.
One of several breakfast places in downtown Los Altos, this is a good one for kids because of the many pancake/waffle choices and the large tables. There is sometimes a wait (as there is at all of them), but it's usually not too long. Friendly staff and plenty of high chairs.
If you like pancakes, then this is your place. They've got all kinds/types and the portion sizes are quite good. They also have eggs, and meat, but it seems like they could have some new combinations of pancakes and other stuff. Was a bit disappointed that they didn't have corned beef hash in Los Altos, as I remembered getting them when I visited one of the San Diego locations last year, even though they should have the same menu since the place is a chain. If you're looking for a breakfast/brunch place, I would recommend Hobbee's or the Country Gourmet instead.
Yummy pancakes and generous portions, but man, does this place need a good remodeling. It's like eating in somebody's basement! The tables and chairs are mismatched and look like Goodwill rejects, the linoleum floor is peeling, the space is large but not very well laid out. If they put a little money into fixing up the place and hired friendlier people to work there, it would be excellent.
