I have been to the Grill atleast 10 times and have never been disappointed. I love the Prime Rib Sandwich and it is a very popular dish there. The prime rib is great too with mashe potatoes but it's huge so be prepared! Everyone loves the ribs and chicken as well. Cornbread is served in a skillet and has jalapeno and honey in it, amazing : )
I have heard the enchiladas are great as well and the peel n eat shrimp are fresh. Pretty much everything is good!
But the best part are the Margaritas. Since it's an older crowd most people get martinis or wine but the margaritas are great and fresh. No mixes, just fresh lime juice. Also grade a tequila.
They take reservations for parties of 5 or less. The place fills up by 6 pm so a reservation is smart. Not open for lunch, just dinner. Enjoy!
I took a friend here for her birthday last week and really enjoyed the experience. The food was wonderful and the service was amazing (the server refilled my drink without my even noticing that he was there.) $14 is a little pricey for a burger, but it was worth it. Really good quality beef and tasty hand-cut fries.
The restaurant was mobbed on Friday night at 6pm, but luckily we had reservations. Seems like a mostly older crowd both in the restaurant and large bar area. The location is convenient, on San Antonio near Foothill and there's a large parking lot. And you can walk downtown for a coffee afterwards or to the Bus Barn Theatre a few blocks away.
This establishment barely gets a four star...one of our party of four was sick and we ordered him orange juice which was fresh squeezed at the bar which is a nice touch. No soup. At all. Hmm...settled for the house salad which was all good with the house dressing except the croutons were soft..they were not stale, just soggy but not from the dressing. Could never quite figure that one out. Ahi tuna entree was very salty but the sauce was good. Everyone else liked their steak entrees and especially our Montana guest who grew up on a ranch. He wanted it cooked warm and bloody (not seared) and that is exactly how it came out. That is what put the rating at the four stars. Dessert selection is very limited and we got the banana cake. I did not like it much but everyone else. The booths are nice. Service is good since the food comes but nobody knows who ordered what since many wait people helped our table for some reason.
I'm a new convert to the Los Altos Grill. Having been dragged there by a friend, I quickly fell in love with the place. Not only is the atmosphere fun, but the food is absolutely incredible. I'm now officially addicted to their beef ribs. So so good. Granted, they taste that much better after having started off with the grilled artichoke. And, no meal is complete without the oreo cookie ice cream dessert. If you're looking for an excellent meal on the Peninsula, you'd be remiss to not give this place a chance. Oh, call ahead for reservations... even on weeknights.
My husband and I went to the Los Altos Grill for the first time on Sat. night with some friends, and we were really impressed with the place. It was absolutely packed, from the bar, to the dining area, it was wall to wall people. After eating there, we now understand why.
Their fare is California grill, with a rather small menu. Although I have to say, I like places like that because I'd rather someone do a few things really well than a bunch of things mediocre. Menu items include prime rib french dip, sliced leg of lamb, rotisserie chicken, and a few other choice items.
We had the cornbread for an appetizer and I can say this really wasn't to our liking, but our friends really enjoyed it. We also ordered the guacamole, cheese dip and chips and it was out of this world. Fresh, tasty, and the waiter refilled our chips when they were low.
My prime rib french dip was great, and my husband said his lamb was really delicious. He didn't like the cold vegetable salad mixture that came with it and wished it came with a side of potato or something. Of course you can order these things extra on the side, which we felt wasn't right.
I have to say my french fries were perfect, probably close to the best I've ever had. They were thin, crispy on the outside, not greasy, and just really really good.
For dessert, we had the oreo ice cream sandwich, which is made there. It came in a pool of warm ganache, and was SO good. I highly recommend this.
Although I think their prices are a little high, and the charging extra for sides is stupid, I would definitely go back to the Los Altos Grill.
Never been there for lunch. Been there twice for dinner. I recommend making reservations as this place gets crowded at dinner time. We went there on a Saturday night at 6pm and the wait time for a table was 45 minutes. I would not recommend eating at the bar to get served quickly; you won't enjoy your dinner. Foodwise, their dishes are good and healthy. I loved my grilled salmon with spinach, it was yummy and light. My friends had the ribs dish and steak dish and the portions were huge, so plan to share these dishes or bring half home. Their salads are good too, I recommend the Hack Chicken salad made with rotisserie chicken... very tasty. Tips: start with the grilled artichoks (delicious!) and finish with the Oreo icecream:) Overall, good and tasty food, normal to high prices, but crowded and noisy ambiance.
with a similar menu to banderas and the only *happening* place in los altos, the food at the los altos grill and bar is very good. the salads are outstanding and the cornbread is a specialty. there is quite the older crowd pick-up scene if that is your desire...it can get bit loud...
Every dish I've had at Los Altos Bar & Grill has been delicious, especially the ribs. Service is always good and fast once you've been seated. Long waits on weekend evenings unless you get there before 5:30pm. Bar area is crowded and loud and not much inside waiting space. Menu has limited selection.
We used to come here all the time when it was Bandera's and we still go when we can now. The jalepeo Cornbread and the Ribs are the best I've had! Good salads, and decent Lunch menu too. It's pretty family friendly, especially lunch, but it gets very busy on weekend evenings!
