My wife and a friend went to Baan Thai last night. We had a really enjoyable time. The waitresses were wonderful to us, and we enjoyed kidding with them. Our dinner began with chicken satay, a delightful appetizer spiced with Thai Spices and grilled. Our friend raved about his seafood salad. My wife had the pad thai, and she really enjoyed delightful color and flavor. I ordered the Kai Koar, which had a tender noodle mixed with chicken, eggs, and vegetables. The mixture provided a great healthy meal. We all shared the Thai BQ chicken. We all agreed, it is the best moist baked chicken available. Of course we had to top our meal with the sticky rice mango dessert. The mangos were perfectly ripe, and the sticky rice rounded out the dish. We all loved this restaurant. Baan Thai is my favorite restaurant in Monterey, and the prices are very reasonable.
awesome food! i've eaten here many times and it is still my favorite place!
fresh, spicy (on certain dishes), fast and pretty cheap. eat here! but don't tell everyone..i like my table in corner...bitches
Alright.. Like you I'm sitting here thinking that the owner's of Baan Restaurant probably had some friends write reviews for their restaurant. Regardless, based on those reviews we decided to try it out. Low and behold the food was awesome.
I ordered the Spicy Catfish plate with a spice rating (when asked) of 4 out of 5. As a male hispanic hot sauce-loving person, this was just the RIGHT amount and the plate was delicious. My wife ordered the Cashew chicken plate which my wife thought was fantastic, though I favorerd mine better on account of the curry sauce. We were stuffed, yet we ordered the sweet rice & mango plate for desert which successfully completed the meal.
Like one of the reviews mentioned before, the dining room itself isn't a spectacular setting, however, it isn't a rat-hole either. The dining room is basically plain (humble) yet clean. The restrooms were clean. So basically if you are looking to dine in a super Thai-themed atmosphere with all of the trimmings, this isn't it. But if you are in it for the food / service / price you need to go here. It's a hidden gem (literally).
Very good food--always fresh and hot! The staff always goes the extra mile to get me the sauces I want on the side. Interior is not great, not bad, just not much to it at all. It is plain and a bit sparse, not the place for a romantic dinner—but is great for a family outing.
I order pick up from them about once a month and the food is always very good. If you like authentic, fresh Thai food…this is a great choice.
(The title is from a SNL skit with Molly Shannon playing Helen Madden) Anyway, I love this restaurant. Thai food is my favorite food and every time I go, I get the Yellow Curry with Chicken slightly spicy. It is is good, and a really good price for this area of the state.
