Bullwacker's, Monterey

Great comfortable place! Eat inside or out on the patio We enjoyed the homemade pico de gallo salsa and it to be homemade chips with it. Main course was burger/fries - My friend said it was great. The burger patty was thick and the burger was about as big as a burger can get! I had Sand Dab fish, veg and roasted red potatoes. The fish was crusted lightly and had a sprinkle of almonds.. Umm Umm good! The food was lovely, the price was great and the service just right. Excellent for a nice stop, kick back after a long day at the aquarium. It's SO CLOSE TO THE AQUARIUM, we got our hands stamped, exited had a great lunch and returned without having to wait in the long line at the aquarium restaurant. Burger w/Fries ONLY 8.99 Salsa & Chips (homemade!) 3.99 or so My fish was a main dinner course, 13.99 but oh soooo good. I recommend this place, they appreciate your business and ARE NOT gimicked up with over priced seafood, fancy gigantic fish bowl drinks and a big fat bill..

My family and I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium this past Monday (3/23/09) and afterward we came into this restaurant on a whim, mostly because of the fire burning and we were cold. We have had our fair share of Fish n Chips before but none of them compared to these. The batter was the perfect consistency, the Cod was so moist and tender, not chewy or mushy. While my wife ate hers, I fed our baby girl so I did not eat for a good 10 min after the food came. It didn't matter because the food was still hot and tasted absolutely wonderful! I don't know how they do it but I hope they never change the recipe! The next time we are in Monterey we are going to come to Bullwackers simply because of the fish n chips! Great Job! Oh, and the service was excellent!

Good food, reasonable price. Service was warm and friendly, like the place. I had the fish and chips. The chips were thick cut and tasty - the best part was the tartare sauce and batter. My friend had the spicy talapia - good stuff. Would recommend.

I was disappointed when I received my meal. I ordered clam chower and was is bad.It tasted as if they had poured a cup of salt in it.My husband meal was salty also, yet he ate his food he was really hungery. Go and wait in line for another restaurant. You will be much better off than eating at this place. I even left a five dollar tip for the waitress knowing it wasn't her fault. Then when I got home the next day I went on line to see that they had over charged me. So! if you ever go down to Monterey don't eat at Captain Bullwacker's Restaurant and Pub. Unless you enjoy eating salt.I also see everyone says the prices are good. Hell no! Don't wast your money.

We went in for lunch, had Shepherds Pie and Ploughman's Lunch and Boddington's. Came back for dinner of fish and chips. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. Met owner, came back next day for lunch before heading home. Will be returning to Monterey in a week and will be in for lunch/dinner several times.

I gave this one a higher than normal rating simply because I got exactly what I asked for cooked the way I asked. Good lunch, reasonably priced for Monterey.
