great food, innovative menu, great service. Be on time or they WILL release your reservation. Very good wine list. Perfect location if you are staying downtown.

Went there last night after the US Open. Did not expect much, but the food and service were fantastic. Our server was very attentive...she refilled our water and cokes numerous times. She asked us multiple times if everything was ok. On top of that the food was excellent. The bacon wrapped pork was the best I ever had. Bread pudding and cobbler were delcious.

August 20, 2008: Extraordinarily good food, a great wine list and excellent service from Tim. I had a bad experience at this restaurant, service-wise, about 8 months ago. I spoke to the manager, Jaime, about it and he gave me his card and asked for a another chance, promising to take care of us. Jaime was true to his word, and the restaurant appears to have made service a priority. I recommend it highly. This time, we had the Paella, Caesar salad, Calamari appetizer (nicely done) and the Raspberry Creme Brulee (superb).

Overcrowded, terrible service
By ,
The food was fine, but the service was awful. Our waiter never checked on our meal, never refilled our wine or water, and never came by after taking our order. The food was overpriced for the taste. We will never go back, and you shouldn't go there either.

The group which owns this restaurant also owns Rio Grille and Tarpey's. The similarities are immediately obvious if you've tried all three. This is not my favorite of the three, but it is still good. The menu is full of dependably good food without many suprises. If you order filet mignon, it will be tender and skillfully prepared. These restaurants also feature great bars.

Good food, overpriced wine
By ,
We enjoyed the appetizers, salad, pork chops, and a special lamb osso buco. A shared dessert of flourless chocolate cake was scrumptious. The portions were reasonable, service good. Decor in a former firehouse is interesting, marred mainly by a television in the bar visible throughout the restaurant. Our biggest objection was the rip-off prices for wine: bottles of nothing-special wine that retail for $10 to $15 are priced at $80 (!) and praised by the server as superior. Suggestion: bring your own wine and pay the corkage.

pleasant surprise
By ,
It was late and we didnt know where to eat. Our hotel sent us,my girfriend and me,on a wild goose chase. Looking for a different restuarant. We walked by and looked in. It was warm and inviting. Soin we went. Our server showed up and promptly went over everything and the menu, including specials. My girlfriend knows a bit more about wines than I, so she questioned our waiter and he had the right answers. She had a burger and I the halibit special. The burger good, hard do wrong. But the halibit was excellently grilled to perfection. It showed up hot and just to the point of being able to flake apart. I eat a lot of fresh fish and wasnt disapointed. Our server was never to be seen, except when I was thinking, maybe I should pour more wine and there he was. The serve was excellent and the food also. It turned out to be a beautiful romantic diner. Thanx

one of my Monterey faves
By ,
When I lived in Monterey, I dined at Montrio a couple times by myself as well as with other people. Some waitstaff get all funny around a woman dining by herself, but I never had that problem here. Everyone was always super professional and personable. Most of the time the food was fantastic, but once when I came back to town for a visit, the execution of the superbly-written menu was a little off. I would still go back, though, as I had so many positive experiences before that.

Great all around
By ,
Montrio is great. However, compared to some of the areas restaurants in its price range, it's a tad sub par. We had a good meal here, but for the prices, it's not what we were expecting. The menu is not as seasonal as we'd hoped, not taking advantage of the range of choices available in produce and whatnot, but the flavor of what was served was very good.
