During our recent trip to Monterey, CA on the morning of Tuesday the 13th of July 2010 we went to eat breakfast at the Denny's on 2137 Fremont St. When we entered the restaurant there was only about four tables being severed and seamed to be a quiet morning. We were greeted and seated right away. While sitting at our table looking at the menus I noticed something moving our table, I looked away from the menu and there was an ant near the condiment rack, at this time the waitress came to take the order. I then mentioned to the waitress that there was ants coming into the restaurant and that she should mention the fact to the manager for pest control, as I mentioned the ants I moved the condiment racks and under it where the rest of the ant clan eating away on scraps left behind because the table had not been completely cleaned or washed for who knows for how long after patrons had dinned. The waitress looked at the ants and food scraps and just smiled like it was a joke, not even an offer wipe the table clean and or offer to move us to another table. Being mid morning we were starved and made our orders anyway, the ants where on the inside portion of the booth and adding insults to injury, my wife's meal must have sat on at pass thru waiting on my meal and was served cold. We summoned the waitress and mentioned that the meal was cold, she grabbed the plate and offered a newly cooked meal, the wife said please reheat it (she did not want wait for a new meal to be cooked and I was almost finished with mine) , with an unconvincing and snide sounding sorry she went to microwave and did as we asked. At this time we thought what else could happen and finished our meals. It was at this time I decided to take a movie the ants (for YouTube to be posted soon), after disturbing the rack many of the ants left but you can clearly see them on our table. We got our check, leaving a small but reasonable tip for the overall bad experience. I then used the rest room (NOT VERY CLEAN, SHOWED TOTAL LACK OF PRIDE BY MANAGEMENT, LEFT THE REST ROOM FEELING DIRTIER THEN WHEN I WALKED IN) the wife went to pay the bill. The waitress took the charge slip and notice there was no tip entered (Wrote 0) and she pushed the slip back at my wife as to say where is my tip. Would I eat here again, only if Denny's closes it down, remodels it, Cleans it up, and puts an under new manager sign out front. As the restaurant stands now it would fail a food sanitation inspection by the County or City of Monterey, I have sent a copy of the letter to the Department of Food Sanitation in Monterey County and City of Monterey, NOTE: I am a retired U.S. Army Food Sanitarian.

I want to let you know that we employ the leader in pest elimination and we will be following up with them. I am very dissappointed in your experience in all facets but very much in the cleanliness as I visited the restaurant not too long ago and pointed out serveral items needing attention. i will follow up directly with the GM Anthony Martinez whom is very qualilied but somewhat new to the location on these issues.
