Bahama Island Steakhouse, Carmel-By-The-Sea

I used to eat about 3 times per month,now that the restaurant is under new management it bassicaly suck.The service is terrible & food is overpriced and small portions.

would like to share with you the experience I had at Bahamas Billy's on Friday night. I decide to go out with my girlfriends, 3 of us all with newborns at home, so this is a very rare occasion. We decided to splurge and go to Bahamas Billy's for dinner. Dinner was okay and we had a great time dinning and just enjoyed not chasing our kids. Being that all of us are in the local hospitality industry we dismissed the slow service even though they were not busy. I understand that everyone is understaffed and overworked. When it came time to pay our bill of $154.80, we gave the server a $50.00 restaurant.com gift certificate, $80 cash and put $24.80 on my bank of America visa card. Then we left the tip in cash, $20. So we leave thinking all is great and what a fun night:) Then I try to pull money out of my bank on Saturday to take my daughter and newborn to the butterfly parade in PG, it would not let me. So I wait to check my account on line and see that Bahamas Billy's charged my card for $154.80, which was the entire bill before gift certificate and charged me $24.80 which was my portion of the bill. This in turn has made my account overdraft and left me with no money to take care of my two kids. So I call the restaurant and talk with the manager yesterday morning. He tells me that they do this to anyone who uses a debit or check card to pay. I said that is fine but I gave you $80 cash and a $50 gift certificate, so holding $24.80 twice is one thing but to hold the entire bill amount is crazy and just not legal. I explained that I am not renting a service from you not keeping anything that I need to be liable for. He just sent me around and around saying that he would call my bank or call his processing center and assured me that it would release in three business days. So for a Friday night dinner, you can not access the money until Thursday the following week. Anyways to end the story I still have no money there is still a pending hold against my account, and I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. They should post this new process on there menu. In this economy people watch there money closely and it sure ruins a night out with the girls when this is the outcome. I hope you can make sense of my letter and just wanted to pass this on to you because this should not be happening in any restaurant. When he said they do this to anyone who uses a debit or check card, I could not believe it.Example: If 3 couples went in and had a $300 dinner then each couple paid $100.00 each. Then the restaurant manager would charge each card for the $100 and for the total amount of the bill $300 so each couple would walk away with $400.00 holding on there account. Very unfortunate for anybody traveling to the area and who has a budget for there trip. The restaurant in turn would have $1200.00 on there side.

i have been to bahama billy's so many times. i am never ever disappointed. do you want to impress and not have to worry about any mishaps, such as service, freshness, courtesy and first class friendlyness. bahama billys, the sure thing.

We had dinner at Bahama Billy's in Carmel, CA on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 after our grandaughter's wedding (Aponte & Alvarez).We ALL had the best time. The food, service, drinks, atmosphere, prices, etc. were all great. We have told many friends, etc. about our evening & highly recommended Bahama Billy's to them all. We met the owner, manager, etc. Everyone was exactly what you would want in a server, chef, etc. Your French fries were some of the best we have ever had & the cheese bread was out of this world. My ribs were great & my husband was very pleased with his salmon. You were all friendly courteous, etc. We will be back & thank you for a very memorable dining experience.
